Considering an integrated
Haven't read this entire thread but here's my two cents: I agree with millercarbon on this: unless you listen to a lot of FM or AM radio, forget the receiver idea!  Actually, just forget about the receiver idea.I tend to recommend only component...
True or False?
Discussions about cables & interconnects and, for that matter, just about all things audiophilia always have a propensity for generating strong opinions, especially when it comes to speaker cables & interconnects. After all of the proselyt...
thoughts on the bose 501 speakers
g_nakamoto, if you are considering upgrading or replacing your 901, certainly understandable given the MAC lineup you have, go do some serious critical listening, under controlled conditions, of speakers in your budget range and worthy of that MAC...
Favorite Guitar Solo
Anyone mention Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Lee Ritenour, Al Di Meola, George Benson, Jim Croce, Leon Redbone, Doc Watson, Norman Blake,  yet?  The are so many virtuosos of so many styles and so many different genre's of music.  We have been blesse...
Any Thoughts On These?
I've done serious seat-time with the ML Motion 60 XTi in two different shops with, obviously, different listening rooms & acoustics.  Both listening rooms, however, were somewhat similar in dimensions.  Here's my take and please remember this ...
What does clipping sound like?
91 dB 6 ohm nominal load speaker, generally speaking, should not be that hard to drive unless the impedance has really low dips.  Again generally speaking, tube amps tend to be able to provide more current than similarly priced SS amps.  So, depen...
My Last CD player
Haven't read this whole thread, yet, but why CD Player?  Why not CDT (CD Transport)?  When or if my Marantz dies in my lifetime, I think I'd be much more inclined to go CDT, rather than CD, even if I have to buy a CDT and external DAC.Be that as i...
what system musicians prefer? Do they care?
Gano, you really opened a can a worms on this one! When you really get right down it, what does it matter what musicians or anyone else, for that matter, prefer in a home sound system?  All that matters is what YOUR ears like.  I would hazard a gue...
Favorite Guitar Solo
No question!  Has to be "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" by Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band as played live at the Fillmore East.  That is a piece of classical electric guitar!  I have some other favorites by Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Jimm...
Best Speakers for a MAC M5200
FYI for James:  for what it's worth, if you can find Aerial Acoustics anywhere near you, even a couple hundred miles, you owe it to your ears to go have a serious listen.  They are that good! With regard to the Revel F206 I bought, I was pleasantly...
thoughts on the bose 501 speakers
g_nakamoto, my thoughts:  You are a brave soul for asking "any comments on this" on a site such as this!  Given your purchases of the 501 and, thereafter, the 901, I would hazard a guess that you like jazz and music with a solid midrange.  Properl...
Best Speakers for a MAC M5200
HOLY COW, BATMAN! That is one hellaciously beautiful and powerful MAC stack! With that kind of power and current, if the budget can support it, I would encourage you to have a critical listen to Aerial Acoustics... probably the 7T. I did some seri...
to buy or not to buy (ultrasonic record cleaner)
Lots of time of my hands today; so, decided to check in on this thread. Have to admit I’m still interested in the Degritter, even though I’m still happy with my CleanerVinyl system, Knosti, Last record preservative and Last Power Cleaner in my cle...
Best Speakers for a MAC M5200
A very belated but no less heartfelt Thanks, crouse99!
True or False?
There is an excellent article on this question written by Geoffrey Morrison in Wire Cutter. It’s called: "The Best Speaker Cable". Google it. It’s written from a scientific perspective (i.e. data; measurements; double-blind auditions; etc.). This ...
