Speaker life expectancy: How long can you buy used
a lot depends on the actual speaker components. SOme speakers have a foam that breaks down pretty easy. Other designs this does not appear to have a problem. lots of altecs, jbls, klipsch speakers out there that push 30-40 years and still sound good.
Cartridges & Sensitivity to VTF
My experience with the ZYX airy 3 is similar to others in that it responds to small changes in VTF and VTA. I have a hard time separating the tweaks of VTF and VTA because if I make a small move in VTF, i unvariably will tweak VTA afterwards to fi...

Agree with the comment about overdampening. I found that out as I struggled to find the right viscosity oil for the trough. Too low viscosity was like no dampening but when i went to a more viscous oil the highs disappeared. I off set by adding mo...

please let me know about the wands. I have a couple of graphite tubes that I had made so I would love to compare to his design. Once i get the VTA clamp built, I will send you one to see if you like it. It will be similar to the one used on the wa...

Record Cleaning Machine Fluid
depends on the formulation, but typical cleaning fluids for vinyl are not harmful. Some strong solvents can actually dissolve or soften vinyl and should never be used. Toluene, benzene etc are examples of solvents i would stay away from. The comme...
Horns for Rock.
Lascalas or Cornwalls. If you are lucky, you might find the khorns (i picked mine up three years ago for 1300.) I also would recommend KLF 30 or KG5.5 and they typically are cheaper. I have three kg5.5's i use in my home theater and used them in m...
Turntable around 2k

Turntable around 2k
I have owned the michell with the rega arm and a VDH frog and was pleased with its performance. My biggest distraction was the lack of VTA adjustment or the difficult Michell vta adjustment knob. I upgraded the cartridge to a zyx airy3 and did get...
Horn Speakers
KHorns or Lascalas. Its difficult to find the Khorns for 1500 but they are very good speakers. I have owned KG5.5, RF3, and now the Khorns. I guess I am a little partial to the klipsch line. The 5.5s are pretty good speakers with a good bass respo...
the dreaded breaking of tonearm wire...now what?
you can get a rewire kit pretty cheap and usually it will improve the sound over stock wire. I used the incognito kit to rewire a rb300 arm. The difficult part is soldering the clips.
Audiophile turntables of the 60's and 70's
Top of the line Dual tables were pretty popular. Not sure if you could classify them as audiophile, but I really used mine a lot. It was a step up from a Garrard I owned It was a 701 model with a Shure MM cartridge.
