Thumper’s Mother
I join the thumb up crowd, thanks @uncledemp  Behaving is not an attack on free speech. Audiogon, for me and many others, is more than a marketplace. It is a forum, a community. I have got much good advice, and even some friends, over the years....
Which has a greater influence on sound quality, the amp or the preamp?
@atmasphere wrote "you hear distortion as tonality" Could you explain? Thanks!
The Horror
To me, the most interesting thing about systems is that they all sound different. I try to identify the difference, before I make any judgement regarding the overall sound. Recently I listened to the big (and beautiful) Italian floorstanders at my...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ?
My Teac NT-505 has run trouble-free for four years. It does its job 'just fine', although it doesn't outperform my analog playback chain. Like others, I've found that it sounds very good with (native) DSD files. With DSD the volume is bypassed whi...
Why all or most audiophiles are men?
How do we "know" that biology decides? Fifty years ago this was believed also in the case of "race" and music. What about social conditioning? We live in a very strongly gender-divided society, not least in the US. Perhaps time to wake up from the...
Looking for cable recommendations for sennheiser HD800s
I hope you get a good cable solution. I used the HD600 for some years, and got a balanced cable for it (to my OTL headphone amp) which was a plus. But we never became close friends, I found the sound closed in and the comfort poor. Next, I changed...
Dynaudio Confidence C1 MKI treble
I had the Dynaudio Consequence with Esotar tweeters (and liked them), but they were extremely power hungry. So at lower volume they could sound rolled off at the top, even with a Krell Fpb600. And at suitable (loud) volume the neighbours complained.
Speakers On Wheels?
There is also the carpet trick - remove spikes and push the speaker on to a carpet. Then, you can drag it. Whatever you do, get help, be careful with your back as well as the speakers.
For those familiar with Sonus Faber
Where would you place the Elipsa in the Sonus Faber hierarchy? I heard them at a friend's place, and was impressed, but I have not heard the models mentioned above.
Looking for cable recommendations for sennheiser HD800s
If you have a headphone amp with balanced output, a balanced cable may be the best upgrade. A clear improvement in my Senn 600, and other h-phones too.
Placement tips for Synergistic Research HTFs

resonance at 500 Hz using headphones - maybe need a different DAC?
I have found that some DACs or systems emphasize the fundamental tones, more than others. As a test case I use Joe Cocker: Seven days, on his Sheffield steel album. This is a great track, with Sly and Robbie on drums and bass (if you want to defin...
Placement tips for Synergistic Research HTFs
Besides the wide disagreement in this thread, what is the cure, I note the absence of attention to the problem. What exactly was bad, before, that was improved by resonators? For example, was it distortion or limitations in the original recording,...
resonance at 500 Hz using headphones - maybe need a different DAC?
A tone from an open string bass guitar, or guitar, tends to sound louder than a closed string further up the neck. Some DACs seem to give this fundamental sound more preeminence than others. But maybe not relevant for choir music ca 500 hz.

Thank you, interesting, I hope you solve the problem!
