Wilson Puppy top lugs instead of bottom lugs
I understood that the crossover is in the bottom unit (the Puppy) but the top unit (the WATT) may have a high pass filter in it.Better check w/ Wilson.
phono stage break in?
I have the Purist disc also, but for phono preamps (and stages) I think the disc made by Granite audio specifically for that purpose is better. It contains the RIAA frequency pre-emphasis that is applied to records and then de-emphasized in the ph...
Shorting Balanced Input
I know Mark Levinson supplies them with all their amps (in gold plate!) and you could make your own, as you suggest, out of a u-shaped piece of solid 10 (or was it 12?) AWG solid copper wire. Frankly I don't like the jumper idea anyway because the...
tight sound and tight $ sub for Silverline monitor
ML Depth -- very fast, flexible controls, and due to the omnidirectional ("Balanced Force") design, doesn't care where you put it -- even in a corner -- although right between the mains is best.
Has anybody imported used equipment into the US?
That's sorta what I tried to express ;--)
Optical or coax?
Jcc3 -- I believe that w/ your Krell stuff, you're talking about AT&T ST glass fiber optical connectors, and not Toslink. And to clarify the electrical thing, it's not so much about carrying a charge but rather that fiber optic ICs (Toslink OR...
Sunfire True Sub Parts/Repair?
If you go to Google and type in : sunfire reconingyou'll find a number of folks who fix those drivers for a nominal amount plus shipping. Or just call Sunfire and ruin their day by asking for the number of the company that recones their drivers fo...
POWER CORD FOR NORDOST THOR
I'm not going to recommend a specific brand (why stick the neck out) but one piece of advice: Whether it's Purist or VD or Elrod or Belden or any of dozens of others, just make sure it has at least 10AWG conductors. I think Audioquest or maybe it'...
Arthur Lee R.I.P.
Oh! That's a shame. I obviously come out of the same era as Q. Well, as van Dyke Parks (another L. Cyn. dweller) has said, "What goes up Laurel Canyon, must e-vent-u-al-ly come down..." Adios Arthur -- see ya soon I suppose ;--)
Has anybody imported used equipment into the US?
Nice system -- just as it is actually. Are you going to replace your main speakers? What with?Frankly, if the price between the imported used pair and the domestic demo pair is close as you say, I think you remove a lot of risk categories by buyin...
Levinson 20.5 monos - Time for a Refurb?
Ed, If you like the way the Sophias sound w/ the ML 20.5s, you're not going to find better ss amps for anywhere near $8K, which is what the 20.5 + refurb. at ML would be worth max. Unless you want to buy a used pair of ML 33Hs for ~$10K, or maybe ...
Levinson 20.5 monos - Time for a Refurb?
Joe, from your further explanation, it might not be your amp (or any other component) at all. First thing I would do is swap the signal leads to your amp and If the "noise" stays on the same speaker, then it's the amp -- but not necessarily someth...
Demagnatize cartridge??
You guys seem to have it under control. but just a word of caution about the Shure "teeter-totter" stylus force gauge: although it's stainless steel, it still has magnetic properties and can be attracted to the very strong magnets in some (most?) ...
Demagnatize cartridge??
Yag is right, you probably broke a coil lead when the cartridge slammed into the gauge. Was it a Shure stylus force gauge?
Levinson 20.5 monos - Time for a Refurb?
Joe, you might want to check/clean/replace the 2 fuses on your amp first. They are sometimes a source of noise after many years -- not really bad, but dirty or marginal. Ditto your signal connections (at both ends.).
