adjustable "fixed" bias amps
Turn the lights off. Is the anode glowing red? Even a little? If so back off the bias until the red is just gone. That's the top of the bias range. Optionally, you can adjust for SQ from there down.

High bias can cause the unit to run hot. If it's new, you may need to run it on low for a period. Check with Dan Wright in case there's an issue with the thermal sensor etc.

If it sounds good, then no need to spend. I used a $30 LPS for a class D amp and it sounded great. It's possible there are better components in the expensive units but you may be looking at diminishing returns.
