Tube preamp with the best built in phono - $4k budget
With a budget of $4k, and an Atma-Sphere amp owner, I'd be inclined to advise saving another few Gs for the MP3.

New Mayfair & Ray Noble – Rarities, Jazz With A British Accent (Sunbeam 1973)This is hilarious and quaint. The more I listen the more amazing it becomes. Musically and lyrically superb. Not audiophile SQ as these are 20s/30s recordings.

Bud Freeman And Buddy Tate – Two Beautiful (Cirle 1983) Can't beat Buddy Tate. Amazing difference between playback on the Decca Gold vs the Super Gold.
