Build-up on stylus - any new cures?
When the stylus gets dirty, I add a few drops of 91% alcohol to the ME. That generally takes care of it. Agree with @slaw keep records clean; less gunk and your stylus will last longer.

Quick listen on the phone so there's that. A sounds better to me. It's probably your Sony XL88D! But knowing your penchant for MM finds, it wouldn't surprise me if A was a vintage MM.

Yup. My phono amps have been topless since forever. Really noticeable with tubes. My LP12 was also coverless in the 80s. I've mentioned this as a great free upgrade in posts over the years.
