Replace tubes yearly?
@silverfoxvtx1800  ”Don’t mean to change the subject but looks like some experts with tubes in here, what’s the best NOS 6SN7 for a nice warm tone you have used?”   Personally, I’ve been using a pair of Tung-Sol 6F8G tubes (in a 20+ year old Te...
The Real Reason Why Music Is Getting Worse!!
Ah, yes. The ages-old “Why in MY day…” Applicable to just about everything from music to literature to politics… well, maybe not politics. I think my grandmother had that right when she would look at some politician on TV and say “they’re ALL thi...
Tone Arm Lifter
A vote for Integrity HiFi’s Tru-lift. ONE caveat: it WILL leak silicone oil over time making the actuator slip off the ledge on the piston. You’ll think you’re good to sit down for a few minutes’ leisurely listening and… SKIP… SKIP…SKIP…SKIP same...
Audio racks that can handle heavy components
Salamander Archetype. I bought a used stack in MAPLE including two side stands for speakers from a guy for about 40% new pricing. Found another stack I picked up out of state en route to our new home for even less. Sturdy, solid, great woodgrain...
What were your top musical discoveries of 2024?
Heilung Forndom Wardruna   and a host of other “Viking” music. I had no idea the Norse Sagas and Eddas were being worked into modern-day music releases or that there’s a virtual army of online techno-geek linguists commenting on the translatio...
2025 Audio System Wish List Time!
Just that we get a final electrical inspection and a certificate of occupancy this week for our new home in Tennessee AND that I find time in 2025 to finish my “man cave”/audio room/office and get my HiFi set up again. Also considering a Denafrip...
What contributes most to a change in how an amplifier sounds?
1- whoever is listening. 2- location, local, location.
My All Time Christmas Song
I’m partial to the classics. Bob Rivers’ “Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire” is one of my perennial favorites. Ho-ho-ho.
Is there a vacuum tube summary poster similar to this grape varietal summary
Not altogether a bad idea. Certain sound qualities COULD be listed/graphed like “harsh” “airy” “balanced” muffled, lacking mids, etc and some kind of chart made reflecting general consensus of certain MANUFACTURER’s tubes, but that’s the problem ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Miles and Miles.   Miles in the Sky Sorcerer  Nefertiti
Whats playing on your system today?
Miles Davis’ “Nefertiti.” Going to have to play this through another half dozen times - as I do with all of Miles’ work.
Klipsch La Scala or Altec 838 speakers
I still find it remarkable that in answer to a simple either/or question all the “experts” come in out of the woodwork to recommend anything BUT the two choices given by the OP. My vote is with LaScalas, but I’ve been a Klipsch fan since 1973-ish...
Type 45 Tubes for stereo amplifiers
I’m burning in a pair of EML 2A3 mesh tubes now for a monoblock pair I’m working on. Using them in a 20 year old Tektron TK2 2A3/50. I’ve also got a pair of EML 300B tubes I’ve used for over a year. Both sound awesome, the 2A3’s so far a little ...
Recommendations for 20 amp electrical outlets
@jea48  I re-read that and it doesn’t now, while fully caffeinated, make that much sense to me either.  Thanks for catching it. Not sure I can even recreate what I was trying to say at the time.
Recommendations for 20 amp electrical outlets
@dbt  Thanks for that. One of my best friends is a master electrician who’s finishing the wiring on my new house in a few weeks (I hope, I hope, I hope) and I ran an aluminum sheathed 10 AWG line from the new breaker box to my audio room/man cav...
