Thoughts and suggestions please @ronboco "One thing I don’t understand is if I wanted to switch to say tidal and import my playlist from Qobuz how does a high rez song from Qobuz remain the same high rez song from Qobuz when it goes to tidal?" Qobuz has a global setting (insi...
Thoughts and suggestions please Just went through this as it triggered a concern I have about backing up things I’ve invested lots of time into. First, I tried Soundiiz. The web indicates you can use it to create a CSV (comma separated value) or TXT file, among others. Af...
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? I just watched the video. Sounds like great set of speakers and mixed with the GR sub system..yikes, Cost is very reasonable if they sound like Steve says. I’ve always liked planar/EM types. Never owned a pair, but I make a point of listening to ...
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? @tshark "...so how is something that I build (even a kit) going to give me exceptional sound?!" You off-load the design to someone else. That's the point of buying a kit and not designing the kit yourself. (..and many high end designs do get i...
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? @vthokie83 The price listed above is in EU, it runs about $6300 US for the kit. Their price also includes the VAT. I think the VAT(usually a hefty %) is excluded for people ordering from the USA. Madisound also carries a Linkwitz LX521 "kit" of...
Top DYI Speaker Options ..also, with respect to GR, look at the top sticky thread on the audiocircle forum..you have options if you’d rather have someone else build the crossover, or get a flatpack..etc. There’s a build thread there too that has member build threads indi...

DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? ..yikes..lots of armchair, spit-balling going on here from folks that really haven't a clue, but are compelled to say..something, even if it's embarrassing.
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? The key to having some resale is to pick a very good model to build from a well known vendor. If you go with something too obscure then there's a limited number of people following the design or vendor and without a following..tougher resale.
DIY Speaker Kits, a good idea? "However, the typical audiophile mantra is to demo for yourself to find what subjectively “resonates” with you. Can’t do this with a kit." Not true in all cases. The GR Research forum on audiocircle has a sticky up on top where people offer aud...
AliExpress order issues Hope it shows up. I just received an Odin Gold USB cable from Ali RM Digital(ordered July 19). I recently installed a streamer and to get it up and running I was using just a basic usb cable I had on hand. I was looking for a good, used cable ...
Open Reel Curious Back in the day, when I was in high school..'72, I took out a $3000 loan to buy a stereo. I might have been a drug-addeled 16 yr-old, but I had my priorities straight.(I was working near full time in high school) My mom co-signed the note and I we...
McIntosh amp Power tube replacements needed @chuck I'm hip. A 16 tube install could sum up to a chunk of change. Linlai Global Dream might be good to look into, or other Linlai. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/linlai-kt88-experience Shuguang has a number of higher-end opti...
Can single ended 211 or 212 amplifiers drive magnepan 20.7? No direct experience with the Maggies, but having a sensitivity of 86 dB...I wouldn't think what you're proposing will work, either option. I once drove a 90dB set of speakers with 60 watts of (KT88) tube power. Sounded..wonderful..but volume-wi...
McIntosh amp Power tube replacements needed I think if you do some research on kt88s, you'll find there are many better options than the JJ tubes, with or without a Mac label on them. These days, $60-$70/tube is a pretty modest amount for (really good) kt88s. |
