Preamp power supply capacitor upgrade
@yowser I used thr Audyn True Copper Max caps in a recent phono stage build. The enameled leads were cumbersome, but they sound fantastic. My impression of them is they're a little more present and less euphonic than Miflex but still that big soun...
Best Sounding Adapter - Making RCA into Banana or Spade? Thanks!
Line level converters are super simple to build even with super basic soldering skills. Get a little plastic box off Amazon, a set of speaker binding posts (4 total), a set of female rca connectors (2ea), 1K 1/4 watt resistor (2ea) and 10K 1/4w re...
Herron Audio...Still in business
@lalitk With that rationale, why would anyone invest in a tri5 Chevy or a 65 Mustang? Long discontinued but ever still popular and a joy to operate.   If the item is in good working order, has the features and function you are looking for, and i...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
@sierrasoundllc  I purchased a Zebra L through Osage Audio two years back. I can't recommend it enough. The sound quality is amazing with all the great hyperbole and analogies you could call out. Add to it their trade-in replacement deals, then a...
Best way to clean glossy finish on speakers?
So for my 9-5, I sell automotive paint to body shops. A lot of speaker manufacturers outside the US still use cheap crap paint, but most anything stateside and everything in the EU are going to use more quality automotive grade paints, some base/c...
Best Digital USB cables under $ 300.00 ??
Hey @fastcat95 , are you looking for a usb-c on the sending side (from computer) or receiving side (into dac)? Also, how long of a cable are you requiring at still being under $300? Are you able to save a little extra if the cable is THAT much bet...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
@owl9113 Glad to hear it worked out. That phono should continue to sound better as it breaks in. There is reverse RIAA filters you could use to speed up the process or just spin some records and know it'll sound even better in a month or so.

@oldrooney  sometimes the cheap trick works fantastic. And yes, caveat emptor is real in this hobby. Glad to hear it's improved for you. 👍 -Lloyd
Best EXTERNAL DAC suggestions
I forgot to mention, in this price range it's hard to really lose money. Do some testing and trading. Try one out on a whim, especially if you can score a good option used. Live with it a few weeks and if you don't like it, put it up for sale and ...
Best EXTERNAL DAC suggestions
Schiit is a lot of things, but warmth isn’t one of them. I have a Bifrost2/64 right now and it is clear, airy, detailed and articulate with decent soundstaging. Best analogy is like an economical 4k TV with the contrast and sharpness just a click ...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
Based on even the simple fact of parts quality, the Bugle MC would be a step up. Your Ifi uses all surface mount thin film parts, where the Hagerman uses metal film resistors and thru hole pcb for a much higher quality build. Granted the true $ in...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
@owl9113 yes, the Moon LP110 V2 or the Schiit Mani would be a good match to your cart, and likely the next one after that. Should be a pretty good cost effective upgrade to "set it and forget it" I think sound quality on a $600 budget you could d...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
It wouldn't necessarily create a mismatch in settings, but the output of your phono preamp would go down thus making it quieter and seemingly less power which is what started you down this path to begin with. But cartridge stats and phono stage se...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
The Hana EL would be a good upgrade in cart, but your perceived loudness would go down due to cart output vs phono gain and your phono stage would create a mismatch in impedance settings running #4 gain setting. You stated you still have some buff...
Weak Link in Vinyl Playback
@owl9113 I have transitioned to a tube phono and tube integrated amp because I liked the sound better, and because I like to fiddle and tinker with gear. I've also heard some very nice SS gear that is more "set it and forget it". One thing I have ...
