Downsizing from tower to bookshelf
Honestly if you’re looking for soundstage in a bookshelf, I can 100% recommend GR Research NX-Studios. Not saying this as a GR kool-aid drinker, but just knowing what I’ve heard they are phenomenal at any price point, let alone right in your budge...
Seeking to Upgrade Subwoofer from SVS SB2000
I agree that placement, integration and a properly treated room make all the difference in subwoofer impact. If you haven’t already, your best $ spent is on a Umik1 and downloading REW to get a baseline of what your room is doing, the in-room resp...
Cary SLP98L upgrades--yea or nay?
@dogearedaudio Which Audyn caps are you using? The Max or the regular True Copper? I used the Max caps on my Tubes4HiFi phono build and really like the sound, but the big stranded leads were a PITA to work with.
What is your favorite budget streamer?
I know this will get lost in the rah rah noise, but look at a Hollis Audio Labs MS6 streamer with a GAN power supply. Little nuc based running W10, streamlined for maximum audio performance. Better than a famed custom MacBook laptop and even beats...
Truly Stunning Vinyl Album
@phillyspecial If you like live music, I’d highly recommend Alice In Chains - MTV Unplugged. I am willing to say it is the best recorded live album. Super intimate hearing all the crowd reaction (and banter), really captures the acoustics of the ...
Can hi-end cables benefit less expensive electronics?
Hey there, Just thought I'd lend my experience to this discussion. Several years back when my system was real basic, I tried out some nice rca cables far outclassing the quality of components and was floored at being able to hear the difference. ...
Modern Covers of Classics
If anyone can appreciate punk covers of songs, Me First And The Gimmie Gimmies are a cover band doing everything from Elton John to Aretha Franklin to old movie songs like Over The Rainbow. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tbK3dBdCVsE Just fun to l...
Vibration dampening
In talking about the spring pods to isolate, I actually put foam ear plugs inside the springs to act as a damper on the bounce and run one or two less springs in the setup. Effective loading without the wiggle and jiggle of springs and sound seems...
Shorting plugs
I recently saw another thread on here discussing the same thing. Picked up a cheap pack of them off Amazon thinking "Well it was only $12. What could it hurt?" Yeah, after plugging them in and sitting down, I was in for a shock and awe experience....
Digital Path to Complete my System
Just curious, are you planning for streaming, local file playback or cd with transport? My system is not in the same tax bracket as yours, but I found a good similarity in sound with a tube buffered r2r NOS dac playing local FLAC files off my netw...
Looking for phono preamp advice in the $1000 - $1600 range
For me, vinyl sounds much more alive with tubes than it does with transistors. I would highly recommend looking at the Don Sachs phono preamp. Adding an internal SUT for your cart would push just over budget but worth saving the extra couple $ for...
Preamp power supply capacitor upgrade
@yowser I used thr Audyn True Copper Max caps in a recent phono stage build. The enameled leads were cumbersome, but they sound fantastic. My impression of them is they're a little more present and less euphonic than Miflex but still that big soun...
Best Sounding Adapter - Making RCA into Banana or Spade? Thanks!
Line level converters are super simple to build even with super basic soldering skills. Get a little plastic box off Amazon, a set of speaker binding posts (4 total), a set of female rca connectors (2ea), 1K 1/4 watt resistor (2ea) and 10K 1/4w re...
Herron Audio...Still in business
@lalitk With that rationale, why would anyone invest in a tri5 Chevy or a 65 Mustang? Long discontinued but ever still popular and a joy to operate.   If the item is in good working order, has the features and function you are looking for, and i...
Curious Why Benz Micro Slid Into Obscurity
@sierrasoundllc  I purchased a Zebra L through Osage Audio two years back. I can't recommend it enough. The sound quality is amazing with all the great hyperbole and analogies you could call out. Add to it their trade-in replacement deals, then a...
