Metrum Dac owners I am using a DIY power cable and silver interconnects (VH Audio recipe) that I made a while back and a generic USB cable. Honestly not much of a cable believer, a generic 20 feet $15 cable from the phono stage to the tube integrated sounds fantast...
Preamp under $2,000 used To add to that, I own the Ayre k5xeMP, and I love it. It has an open, smooth sound, maybe a touch of sweetness, has one of the best volume controls I have ever had the pleasure of using. Fully balanced, dead quiet. Replaced a Dehavilland Ultraverv...
Preamp under $2,000 used Definitely the Ayre K5xeMP, basically the latest iteration, though it may be a bit above 2K used.
Long RCA interconnects Just got in a pair of Kabeldirekt 20 feet pair to test out. Sounds amazing. Just for peace of mind I'll probably end up making my own 'audiophile' interconnects but cool...and it looks like I really need 15 feet or so.
Long RCA interconnects I have a Benz Micro Silver MC
Long RCA interconnects Eastern Electric Minimax phono stage.
Long RCA interconnects Yes, the phono run is short, but the run to integrated has to be long and since both devices are single ended, it can't be balanced, unfortunately. I'm hoping a shielded cable will hopefully reject interference.
Legacy Audio Signature SE : Wanting to listen in NYC I do own these, in fact bought these from Audio Doctor...I'd suggest dropping by Dave's or if you want, you can drop in and listen to them at my place...but I'm not sure when I can arrange that...
NOS DAC Warmth I don't know if I'd call either devices generally warm, these are misconceptions IMO as neutral devices are just neutral...it's more a comparison between things that sound harsh versus non fatiguing, and bad recordings will never sound good right,...
Speakers "Disappearing" i think with good placementand gear, and room acoustics, ie, rugs and things, you should definitely have a phantom center image. but expecting every recording to go beyond the speakers' width is a tough ask, i think its very recording dependent.
Speakers "Disappearing" some of the older hard stereo crap will never disappear, vocals to the left, guitars to the right...always from the speakers.
Review of Legacy Audio Signature SE and dealer Audio Doctor System was: CA Dacmagic+ > Ayre k5xeMP > McIntosh MC 252So my original review was actually based on a fairly low end dac. Then became:Metrum Onyx > Ayre k5xeMP > McIntosh MC 252 At this point fidelity became a lot better, well rounded...
tube bias question @rpeluso,your manual should have this information, or check with Lyric, they are very communicative. My personal unit (140 mk2) mentions turning the volume all the way down, and there should not be any incoming signals, switching to the bias mode...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD Have you thought about creating an insulated room suspended from a crane so it's decoupled from the earth?
Metrum Dac owners @roncagg , yeah let us know. I'm honestly confused by the vast array of things out there. I was gonna get a Schiit Eitr and call it a day but sometimes manufacturers optimize particular inputs, and I'm not sure if the coax input in Metrum dacs wou... |
