The use of equipment as "tone controls"
" I used to marvel, ooh and ah, at the dynamics, punch and resolution of my other amps and then need to leave the room after a song or two or three."A classic trap most of us fall in to when auditioning new components
The use of equipment as "tone controls"
"Then I realized that everything sounded not only good, but practically the same" Glenn Garza, could you elaborate on this statement? I think you are saying that no matter what recording you choose they all sounded good but similar and no venue am...
Black Keys
Yes, The new BK is great-musically and sound quality wise. I would classify their sound as Bluesy Ultra cool rock. I also have their all LPs and Cds. They are anything but 'one Trick pony'. But, even if they are wow what a great one trick pony tha...
Where are you today?
Started with all SS gear, a big 400 watts/channel amp. Then got a tube integrated and phono for my upstairs system. Amazing sound. Still for my main system I maintained that gotta have 'power' and bought another pair of ref 800 watts (at 4 ohm) mo...
Can you Listen to Vinyl Casually??
Generally no. Occasionally Yes. Only because I don't want waste the LP play and spend cartridge life and come back to TT set up every 20 minutes. Of course my digital and analog set up being extremely comparable helps. BTW, Love the The Brian Jone...
Nearfield listening
I listened to about 6 ft away on my main system ( Dunlavy V ) and about 5 ft for bedroom/study system (Dunlavy IV). My primary goal is to avoid room reflections. Works great.
What is the ideal High Freq extension?
I think spectral analyzer would be more accurate way to measure system system response at your listening position. I think the Ratshake sound meter may not be accurate the freq extremes even with so called corrections applied.I measured my system ...
What is the ideal High Freq extension?
Detlof,Sure I would certainly be interested to know the your acaoell tweeter experiment. How did you measure your Sound lab extension to 20K hz? Via Sound meter? with necessary correction applied? ( Here in US we have Radioshack sound meter that I...
What is the ideal High Freq extension?
"I think the music should dictate the frequencies" Absolutely agree. I also agree that room and its contents would give you treble limitation. But say if you are 'designing' a dedicated room around your system what would you target the roll-off?Pe...
First used turntable +- $20,000. Any suggestions?
Detlof, I totally agree with your definition of Musical vs Analytical. This def could also be extended to harmonics and other detail 'tones'Gregm also said plenty with this remark " ...(unmusical), i.e. with phase & timing problems & other...
Most pleasing sound vs most hifi sound
Not ridiculous at all. Some car system just right balance. Just over the weekend I was driving in my Boxster with stock DSP system with Bose subwoofer behind seat. The dash speaker are damn cheap Nokia 4 inch paper cone mids and highs, the door ha...
Anyone experienced with Rolf Kelch Ref table?
Indeed a gorgeous looking turn table. I also inquired about this TT with SORASOUND. Generally I hate gold finish on everything audio, this is done really well! Raul, Thanks for the link.
Ultra high resolution
Well, the last Shadornes' insightful post high light the gist of audiophile dilemma and indicate that indeed there are no absolutes in high end audio. There is wide range of sound between 'accurate' to recording and life like sound reproduction.It...
mbl 6011d or arc ref 3 or dartzeel preamp?

Rodman99999, I also have many artists you mentioned above - some in both CD and Vinyl. bought and collected when I was heavily in to smooth jazz and New age music. Here in LA another collection was available on Wave Aid series of CDs released by K...
