Ok, since we're talking Led Zep and I'm a fan, which vinyl pressing would you recommend? Which one sounds the best? Cheers, Nick.
Adjusting the arm height in the VPI JMW 9
There are two screws; one on the right and one at the back. Use the bigger of the two supplied allen wrenches. The dial is the grooved wheel near the base of the support as you say. I have done this on the fly but always make sure you loosen the s...
Mounting a Shelter 501 on a JMW/9
Sorry, forgot to add that ;-) My table is a VPI Scoutmaster. I have the new Signature tonearm. I had no issues like this with my previous cartridge (Denon 103R) which I believe is due to the cantilever being much further forward relative to the ca...

Thanks for the reply. I hear it on Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand The Weather" on Pure Pleasure. It's 2 180g slabs so I assume it's "audiophile" although I bet the tape wasn't very good from which they remastered it. The CD recording was awful.
Possible stylus damage to my DenonDL103
Damn and blast I did the same thing, today, except I broke the cantilever off! How much does Van den Hul charge for retip? Is there anyone else in the US who does this?

Jamnperry, thanks for the insightful comments about the effects of anti-skate. When I get home from the holidays I'm going to tweak a bit, listen more closely and see if I can hear the changes you described.
Was your first cartridge relatively expensive?
I was asking the same question a year ago with little or no vinyl but a passion for the stuff and a need to cleanse myself of that digital grunge! I spent $250 on a Denon 103R and $2000 on a Scoutmaster, and boat loads on records. I guess my perso...

I have to admit I can't hear a difference with or without anti-skate so I'm not going to spend much much time, effort or the tips of my fingers discussing it. Much better to spend time tuning the system properly, swapping tubes and buying vinyl. O...
Whats under your VPI Scout / Scoutmaster?
I use a Gingko Cloud 11 and love it -- no more jumps! I believe they now have a 2-piece version as well.

I bought my Denon 103R cartridge from them and they delivered quicker than expected and were pretty communicative. Recommended.
VPI periphery record ring for VPI Scoutmaster
Hi Tms0425, I have the scoutmaster with sig arm but no ring clamp or SDS as yet. I also use a Joule Electra amp (VZN-80) and Merlin VSM-M speakers. I use the Denon 103R cartridge and I love its sound. I have heard the Shelter Cartridges sound good...
Speaker Cable for Merlin TSM-MM
I use Signal Cable Silver Reference with my VSM-Ms and I am very happy so far and they haven't broken in yet!
VPI Scout and Scoutmaster Owners: Another Question
I concur with Slipknot1. I'd also add that if the feet are adjusted wildly different to each other you should level the rack rather than the table itself. Definitely get a spirit level (a few dollars from any hardware store) -- mine is permenently...

I haven't tried the damping fluid either. I'm not sure my Denon cartridge would benefit from it as it's not super-low compliant but I might give it a try soon anyway to see what happens. I think the Shelters are lower compliance so you will notice...
