a couple of questions about maggies I've had a pair of 12'2 for about seven months now. Been driving it with a Stan Warren modified Adcom gfa 5400 (125w @ 8ohm, 200w @ 4ohm) and a Quicksilver tubed linestage. At normal listening levels the sound is excellent; smooth yet detailed. Ho...
Philips 795SA Tidybear,Have you used or are you using the 795SA as a transport? Comments please. And is the digital out upsampled? Thanks.
Difference between Class a and a/b zoya, your explaination is incorrect. Your description of class A is actually a single ended design(i.e. one output device handling the entire signal). class A can also use two output devices, one handling each phase. however both devices stay powe...
Magnepan MG 12 v NHT VT 2.4 I acquired a pair of MG 12's recently and am very happy with them. Just a few things to keep in mind...1) make sure your amp is up to driving the maggies,2) placement is a bitch. Moving the speakers half an inch will affect the sound. It took me a...
Need help from tube guys to select a tube preamp I've been pretty happy with Quicksilver's linestage. I've seen used one for around your price range.
Modified Adcom 5400 or Stock 5500? Thanks guys.Didn't think about the 500 series amp. I owned a 555II about 10 years ago.
Magnepan 12s I've gotten pretty good results using a B&K ST1400II. 125 watts @ 8ohms. They usually sell for @ $300 used.
Good Preamp for Adcom GFA-5400 $500 new or used Personally, in the $500 range, I would go passive. There are a few things you have to watch out for...since the source (I presume it's a cd player) is driving the amp you need to match the output impedance of the cd with the input impedance of the...
Comments on Nakamichi PA5 thanks guys.
typical problems with low end int. tube amps? How about a hybrid (intergrated or separate)? That's what I use currently. A tube pre will impart just enough of the warmth you're looking for.Jolida makes a hybrid intergrated that just may be what you're looking for.
Amp Selection Assistance Needed I've listened to N804 driven by a dna-2 delux extensively. great match! b&w speakers tend to sound very warm/lush and the mccormacks neutral-lean sound is a great balance. also great soundstage.
Budget Amp for Maggie MMG's Personally, I prefer the CE775 over the NS500V. Auditioned both before purchasing the CE775. It sounds a little better (highs a little smoother, more airy sound). However, if you need a dvd player also then I guess the NS500V way to go.By the way ...
Queen quandry I recently purchased mofi's remaster of "The Game". Don't know if all the queen mofi remasters are the same way, but The Game wasn't all that impressive.
