Amperex PQ 6922 vs Amperex PQ 7308 TVAD,To answer your question, only the PQ version had the shield logo. The other one has the green JAN label.
Magnets on cables? Wouldn't the magnets have the same effect as a ferrite core?
Amperex PQ 6922 vs Amperex PQ 7308 Amperex made a "regular" and a PQ version of the 7308 tube. I have a pair of each. The PQ version seems a little more extended at the frequency extremes, whereas the regular versions are more "midrangey"/"tubey".Hope that helps.
Add a DAC or Mods? Have you tried rolling tubes? You can get the detail you're looking for by swapping out the stock tubes.
CD player with variable output Don't dismiss the ability to go direct merely because the cdp uses digital volume attenuation. I use a Heart 6000 which has a digital volume control and find that going direct is more dynamic and transparent w/ better transients/attack compared to...
Jolida JD-100A vs. Ah Njoe Tjoeb 4000 I have a Heart. Not bad considering I paid $450. I chose the Heart over the Ah because the AH uses opamps for voltage gain (the tubes are only a buffer). The Heart uses a true tube output, no opamps.
Higher end Tubes for Ah Njoe Tjoeb 4000 The Amperex 7308's are very good (esp the PQ versions). The Seimens 7308 is supposedly the ne plus ultra 6922 variant, but its expensive. Also very good is Mullard
Hum or buzz through speakers Also, Steve designs his amps to be passive pre-amp friendly, i.e. high input sensitiviy. It may be something you'll have to live with.
Golden tube SE-40 Special Edition There's also a user group on Yahoo
Tube Suggestions 6922 4 pathos Classic one I disagree with John_tracy, Siemens are not warm sounding tubes. Compared to Amperex's and Mullard's, the Siemens sound leaner. That doesn't mean that the Siemens sound bad, mind you.
Is Spectron Audio "Dead or Alive"? I wasn't as impressed with the ZR1600's as everyone else. Had to get rid of it after 6 months..
What will replace a Wadia 830 Remote? The 830 uses a Pioneer stable platter transport. Try a Pioneer remote.
Vandies or Maggies? Since you're keeping the NAD, I'd recommend you go with the Vandies. I don't think the NAD can drive the Maggies properly.
Bryston 5BST and Maggies MG12 I use a Stan Warren modded Adcom 5400 (200w @ 4 ohms) to drive my MG12's. About 80% of the time I feel it's adequate. However, there are occasions when I wish for a little more juice. This only occurs when I really crank it up.
Anyone tried using 3 Magnepan MMGs for L-C-R? Fishcall,I've heard both and currently own the mg12's. It's not a matter of which is better. Rather, your question should be which will be a better fit for your listening room...bigger room? go with the mg12's. smaller room? go with the mmg's. |
