Audioengine 2's vs. Bose Dock for cube farm audio I use the AE2 as TV speakers in my mid-size living room. They are a wonder, especially at low volumes. My son thought I was using my Von Schweikert VR5 HSE's when the TV was on!neal
DAC recomendations $1500-$3000 W4S DAC2 does not handle SACD. otherwise, it is a first rate DAC with many inputs.I have used it since it came out, and very happily.Neal
Should I try to improve speakers at $2000.00 range I knew the Celestion 6's as great speakers, but did not and don't know the 700's. I own the Spendor SA1's and they are superb little speakers, sounding much bigger than their size would indicate.I formerly has the S3/5 and the "R" version. The SA1...
Spectron Musician III MK.2 or Audio Research DS450 They probably said the same thing about solid state amps back in the days they were being introduced.Neal
Lessloss DFPC Sig versus Shunyata CX and Nordost I have 2 LL Sigs and 2 Valhallas. I use the Valhalla from the wall to my power conditioner as I have found in this primary role it is more neutral and 3D than the LL Sig. I use that one from Pre to power conditioner, because it gave the sound more...
Which components are "stupid good"? Wyetech Opal Pre. Unfortunately, all sold out and waiting for Roger Hebert to come out with new SOTA "Ruby" pre. If you xcan find a used Opal, grab it. They go fast because they are legacy products.Neal
Are CD players dead Until there are commercially available music downloads with audio quality at least equivalent to CD's (which Apple, et al assuredly are not)and at a cost reasonably equivalent to CD's (which HD Tracks, et al most assuredly are not), neither CD's n...
Why are HD downloads so expensive? They are so expensive because people pay those prices. If we didn't, they would lower the price, or technologically find a way to make them available at lower cost. Simple Eco 101.Neal
Power Cords--Your Preference? I have been playing with different PC's since the Electraglide FatMan days. My current faves are the Nordost Valhalla and LessLoss Sig PC's. But I also have some older tried and true champions - the Elrod EPS and Statement series (the latter is th...
15A to 20A adaptor Voodoo Cable makes a fine adaptor. Mine has worked for years without problems. I use it from PC into Audience power conditioner.
Wadia 171i Digital Transport Sound Issues I use the i170 with a 160gb iPod Classic, and find it very sensitive to PC and digicable. With a Kharma Grand ref digicable (which I had lying around) and a Nordost Brahma PC connected to an adaptor for the Wadia electrical input, I get very near ...
Reference Transports: An overall perspective I am sticking with my RAM - modded CEC TL-1x, recently refreshed and updated by Nick at True Sound with a new belt, etc. AES/EBU output through Sextet digicable to W4S DAC2 (which replaced a Dodson DAC). Can't see why I would want to replace this ...
Requesting help...fairly new to computer audio The W4S Dac2 is a superb component, punches way way above its price class. I have been using it since it came out and am highly satisfied. I use with a transport and Wadia i170 iPod dock so cannot testify as to USB connection performance.Neal
Best CD I've heard so far 2011......... The new Feist CD called Metal is superb! Rich and varied.Neal
Why 24/7 warm-up period on amps? In my experience, when SS amp has been on for at least an hour, it sounds best. I have no idea why. The exception is my BR system's bel Canto S300 power amp. Sounds the same from minute #1 to hour #1. Again, I have no idea why.Neal |
