Clearaudio Concept with Satisfy Tonearm or Technics 1200 GR
@pgastone  I haven't tried any other mats, I do use a turntable clamp and I did notice an improvement. The only other tweak I have done is add a KAB tonearm damper and to be honest I'm not sure if it made any difference.
Clearaudio Concept with Satisfy Tonearm or Technics 1200 GR
I have had both and was able to compare them directly.  I had a Clearaudio Concept but with the Verify arm for about 7 years. It's a nice looking deck and sounds good too. However mine required the platter bearing to cleaned re-oiled quite freque...
Technics SL 1200 GR
I think you'll be pleased with that AT cartridge. Here's a common sort of stylus gauge... Stylus gauge Amazon On my SL1200 I use a tracking force of 1.8g for my 540ML. Technics advises to set the antiskate to the same value as you set the trac...
Technics SL 1200 GR
I moved from a Clearaudio Concept to a SL1200GR because of it's removable headshell. I thought it would be a lateral move sound quality wise, but it wasn't, the direct drive Technics sound floor is more quiet and the speed is always dead on. Oth...
Mainstream Phono Stages Incorporating Premium Branded PCB Parts - Do They Exist?
Ifi Audio iPhono3 Black Label uses high quality components from Burr-Brown, TDK and Nichicon. It does sound excellent, I have to say. https://ifi-audio.com/products/micro-iphono3-bl/
Looking for phono preamp advice in the $1000 - $1600 range
If don't mind the form factor, The iFi Phono 3 Black Label is an amazing sounding phono stage.
The Horror
You have some nice equipment, you will be shocked at how much better it sounds if you research and apply some room treatments! From your system page it looks like you will have a lot of unwanted reflections going on in there.
room setup suggesion needed
@ssg308, quality, properly set up subs will not add "boom". They will not only add more detail to the lower frequencies but will enhance the sound at higher frequencies as well. You will not be able to to localize the sound from the subs, it will ...
room setup suggesion needed
I have / had  sealed, rear ported, front ported and bottom ported "box" speakers. All would decrease in bass as they are moved from the wall boundaries. Trying different distances is key to finding the right balance between bass output and sound s...
Diffusers: under what circumstances might they help when placed behind speakers?
For soundstage depth improvement, try moving the speakers out into the room more. Also removing furniture and gear from between the speakers or get it as low to the ground as possible will have a huge impact.
Audiophile frame of mind
I've had a nice Weber with side burner for over 10 years, couple of years ago I decided to go all "analog" with my grilling and bought a Kamado Joe. The Weber hardly gets used anymore. :)
Accuphase or Leben for heavy metal
You really can't make broad generalizations about Metal, there are so many different subgenres! Even these below get broken down even further. Some types have excellent production while others are compressed and poorly recorded on purpose :)   ...
Speakers, floor standing or Bookshelfs
@simonmoon  All valid points you have there. Like everything in this hobby it depends on what sounds best to owner of the system. I have dabbled with DSP and REW, but in the end with my gear and in my room the best result came without it. I gues...
Stereophile review of the $30,000 tekton speakers
@grislybutter  were you privy to all the interactions between Eric and Erin? You speak as though you were. If you have all the facts then good, but please don't pretend to be all knowing on the subject if you don't.  My original post was meant t...
Stereophile review of the $30,000 tekton speakers
@grislybutter So you are saying the using the justice system to correct something that has wronged you is akin to shooting someone? This is the sort of fantastical talk that gets the lynch mob going as I mentioned in my previous post.
