Can we get a concensous of which version this is?The one in this image is the cartridge I have. Are we talking an original series 9 or the Kawami? https://conchan1.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/mi-last.jpeg
Ikeda 9 Cartridge Squeaking
Cartridge identification on these is always difficult. Mine is the gold colored body with the kanji character on the right hand side and Ikeda 9 printed across the bottom. I have always had wondered if this is just the standard 9 or if this is the...
New TT for ~$1500
There are very good reports regarding the SOTA Escape. Worth looking into. Has the Phoenix Engineering speed controller integrated which is an excellent way to obtain speed control with a belt drive table.
Soundsmith - Thank you to everyone.

Cartridge advice
A couple of very nice Audio Technica cartridges come to mind. The AT33SA can fall in that budget. So can the OC9 family, there are some new members as well as the OC 9 III. If you can stretch a bit the ART-9 is reported to an excellent all around ...
Brightness
More information is needed. What is the cartridge? What is amplification? What is the room like and how is equipment set up?What is used for cabling? What kind of music is being played? The WT is a table with a plethora of adjustments, especially cons...
Good value arm with high quality internal wire
@lohanimal Sorry, the table I bought came from the second hand market was not offered with the Brinkmann arm. I cannot make that comparison for you.
Good value arm with high quality internal wire
When I had my Rock III I used an modified Rega RB 251 on it. The Audiomods Classic III has the same head shell and arm length as the Rega and would work. Not sure about the Elite, but my version of the Townshend table would only take a 9 inch arm....
Good value arm with high quality internal wire
I have an Audiomods Series Six on a Brinkmann Bardo table, Not sure it would be able to accept the damping paddle for the Townshend trough though. Maybe a Kuzma would do the job.
Looking For Candidates For That Mythical 6922 Tube
So yesterday the JJ 6922 goldpin tubes delivered. Out of the box they were a bit bright and harmonically lean. I chalked it up to being an inexpensive tube, but I did notice its tonal balance was more in line with what I wanted to find. So I kept ...
What does a tonearm contribute to the sound of a turntable?
In a perfect world a tone arm contributes nothing to the sound. It just allows the cartridge to track the record and convert mechanical squiggles into electrical impulses. Practically it adds distortions. The better ones add less than the mediocre...
Looking For Protractor For Well Tempered Reference Tone Arm
Why does it matter? Well since the head shell offset is at a fixed position, then overhang has to be correct to have the offset be correct also. Get overhang length wrong, and the other half is wrong. Also I have an Ikeda 9 Kawami cartridge on thi...
A Soundsmith Re-tip Believer
@chakster Goldring offers retip services.Expert Stylus was the European approved service facility for the time when the elder Sugano was retired. They also have their own cut for diamond profile.
A Soundsmith Re-tip Believer
Funny how these conversations go to the extremes. A third party retipper will make a lowly cartridge into a top end performer, or they butcher it and no possible way it can be anywhere as good as it was. I suppose with many things the mode of prob...
Looking For Candidates For That Mythical 6922 Tube
@janpro8 Well I am waiting for some tubes to arrive. This might be my last ditch effort to find a working combination. I ordered a couple pair of the Voskhod 6n23p with the single wire and getter, We will see how these work out. As a wild card, I ...
