PS Audio Digital Link III vs. Bel Canto DAC-2 I've heard both and owned the Bel Canto. It is one of the smoothest sounding DACs I have ever heard. The PS Audio is also good but more analytical in its' presentation. If your system is neutral or tends toward brightness I suggest the Bel Canto. ...
Quiet? This is normal. CD players can have pretty high output. It is not unusual for it to sound louder, at the same volume setting, as your phono. If you like the sound of your analog it is not an issue. You can buy a phono stage with a higher output, a...
Amps on the cheap....real cheap Since it is a short term solution just buy another Adcom and minimize your expense.
Upgrade RB300 Tonearm or Not? >>Tell me anyone here can outthink and design Harry Weisfeld<<Bob Graham, Frank Schroder, Tri Mai, and AJ Conti for starters. How many more do you want?I believe he was talking about people participating in the thread and not other desi...
Upgrade RB300 Tonearm or Not? Well the HW-19 predates the JMW by many years so I don't think they were "made for each other". I do agree that you need to know a whole lot more than most of us do to argue with Harry's choices. He knows his stuff and has a passion for driving in...
Vandersteen 2CE's 100 WPC will drive them fine if the room is not too large.More power is, of course, usually better. I don't think 200 watts is essential unless you play them really, really loud.
Best U.S.A. speakers? I respect the engineering and build quality of Wilson but many of the speakers leave me cold. I didn't like any of the Watt/Puppy versions until the 6 came out. I have never liked any of their big models. I've always liked the Sophia in both of it...
Feickert analogue protractor....Owners impressions The Ken Willis protractor has provisions for all three geometries (sp?). Right now I have my Audioquest PT-6/Denon DL-160 set up for Stevenson feeling it sounds better than Baerwald. I have not tried Lofgren. I echo the positive comments about thi...
Vandersteen 2CE's Good equipment to start. I prefer solidstate power with Vandersteens. Some prefer tubes. I find that good solidstate brings out the best of what they have to offer. They are revealing enough to perform even better with upmarket amplification and s...

How LONG have you been an AUDIOGONER'? Almost 10 years. I completed my first transaction in December of 1998 and I'm now approaching 400. Hard to believe.
Tweaking my new Rega P1: How much is too much? If you like the Rega sound I suggest buying a P3-24 with the optional power supply. You'll get a better table and arm that will significantly outperform the P1 no matter how it is upgraded.
Chattanooga/Ooltewah, TN I grew up in Chattanooga. Left in '73 and came back for a short time in 1989. I now live in Louisville. Is Digital Phase still manufactured in Chattanooga?Regards,Wendell
Upgrade RB300 Tonearm or Not? If that $700 includes the cost of the arm it is worth it. If it is in addition to the arm I would consider other options. A used JMW 10 can be had for somewhere south of $1000 and, in my opinion, is a superior arm. I've owned both the JMW and an u...
Which REGA CD player? All the current Rega players are "analog-like" in their presentation. I've never heard one that was overly detailed or analytical. Their software can be glitchy so be advised. Good players. |
