My book shelves/ audio center.
When I play a good clean and/or new record it sounds good. I can listen to it and enjoy it. But it does not sound great. A little flat maybe. There seems to be too much warmth and not enough brightness....but some of that may be because I listen t...
Soliciting Member Perspectives: Levinson vs Bryston vs Audio Research
Is it even possible to say "Levisnon vs Bryston vs Audio Research" without being pretentious? ;-)I can't help you because I don't have a lot of experience but I have an old AR LS-16 tube pre-amp. I think it was one of their lower end pre-amps.It r...
Cd's to make a come back in the future?
I think there is another element here. To the aspiring audiophile DACs, cables, transports, streamers, jitter  etc etc, especially the high dollar stuff, can be off-putting both in their complexity and cost but also in the wide range of opinions in...
Cd's to make a come back in the future?
And not to beat a dead horse but for the frugal audiophile (an oxymoron if there ever was one) if you do the leg work you can get an extremely well engineered CD, e.g. Two Against Nature by Steely Dan (my reference CD) for $5. Hi res files are $15...
My book shelves/ audio center.
Thanks guys. I have found that built-ins, especially when built in old homes like mine (90 years old), is harder than it would seem. All of the construction elements of those shelves is simple....the problem is that old houses are not in square. Y...
Speaker Width?
"Although I agree with most of the advice you're getting, it's really no wonder this hobby dying off (LOL / Kind of)"That would be funny if it wasn't so true! ;-)
What are you streaming tonight?
Trigger Hippy. Pretty good stuff. I might buy this one.
Whats playing on your system today?
@boxer12, Just listened to The Trinity Session and I like it okay. Sweet Jane, Blue Moon Revisited and Misguided Angel are particularly good. Many of these songs are covers and they do a good job but they're own stuff on Lay It Down is really good...
Speaker Width?
That actually makes things look a little better. I think the pano made things look worse than they are. The cushion of the chaise part of the sofa is in the way a little but looks like it just blocks the woofer and not the mid and tweeter. I have ...
Worst Audio Injury !!
I recently built bookshelves and a console for my components. During all that time I was carrying plywood etc and my back started to hurt. Then I had to move my amp, 100 pounds, and tweaked my back again. A little later I was kneeling on the floor...
Novice Digital (wired) Question(s)
Glad you got it set up. I'll admit that I don't know if I know what jitter sounds like but when I stream via Apple TV>optical>DAC the sound quality is not as good as when I stream (or play ripped CD) directly from computer> USB>DAC. It...
Speaker Width?
I agree that getting the speakers away from the wall is important, but I also think that how far is probably dependent on the specific speaker including where its bass port is located. In my situation I can only get them about 2 feet from the sidew...
Cd's to make a come back in the future?
I said:"Even low end CDPs sound good and can be used as transports."  @inna said:"No way, totally wrong. Besides, transport is at least as important as dac, some people don't know it."No, not wrong at all. As inexperienced as I am I have had the o...
Whats playing on your system today?
boxer12, I will admit that I have not given The Trinity Sessions a serious sit down listen and even my experience with a number of their other albums is cursory.  I should have said that their other albums didn't initially grab me the way Lay It D...
Cd's to make a come back in the future?
I agree that CDs are unlikely to generate any nostalgia.  I was among that generation who experienced vinyl, eight track, cassette and then CD. And while nostalgia is often cited as an appeal toward vinyl, nostalgia really doesn't draw me to any m...
