Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
I know I'm beating a dead horse. And I don't mean to be argumentative. And I very well may be misunderstanding something. I probably am.But........as has been said before, and not just by me, most of what people hear through ear buds is normalized...
Same watts at 8 and 4 ohms?
I'm good with the not blowing up part. That's a feature that I find reassuring. ;-)Also, from what I am able to understand from this thread is that since I am not likely to ever use more than 50% volume and usually around 30% I should not be taxin...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
The problem is that compression doesn't actually make it sound as good as possible on typical devices and normalization often renders even that 'effect' pointless. So that might be the reason why it is done but it still isn't a very good reason.Of ...
Same watts at 8 and 4 ohms?
Elliott, thank you for the thoughtful response. I will take it all into consideration. However, right now and against the prevailing wisdom here is what I am going to do and why.I am going to order the Sonos Amp for my birthday next month. Here is ...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
I still don’t have an adequate conspiracy theory that works any better than your explanation or anyone else’s so I’m not ready to go down that path either.I still think that for a number of years it was just the thing to do for reasons you mention...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
Yes, compression is necessary to 'contain' for lack of a better word the highs and lows within a listenable range. But that is compression that is used both out of necessity and, when done well, artistically. I'm still not sure I'm buying into the...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
Maybe that's it. And I agree, at this point it just seems to be a fact of life.At the risk of hijacking the thread it seems to me is that the next question is what can we do about it? I'm not talking about changing the industry, I'm talking about ...
Are the loudness wars fake so record companies can destroy the music?
Why do you say it is a requirement? Not disagreeing, I just don't understand why. Most sources, including radio, normalize loudness to some extent. It is the default setting in iTunes/Apple Music. So it would be unusual for a song to stand out sign...

I don't buy into conspiracy theories.I also don't buy into digital vs analog debates. I hear good stuff in both formats. What I do buy into is that most new music is horribly compressed. There is a fair amount of good data to support this. I probab...
What/who do you listen to that you feel is a bit of an unknown?
Khruangbin. All three albums. Sort or world music/ambient/Thai funk/Texas. Not the sort of descriptions that would make me interested but I love this stuff for some reason. Seems to be recorded reasonably well. Have not seen any data but it sounds...
Classe' Sigma SSP. Is it outdated?
Thank you. It has only been up for about a month so I suspect I need to give it more time. It just seemed that most of the other components at least have watchers and questions being asked but nothing on the Classe'. I'm going to list it here on A...
Same watts at 8 and 4 ohms?
Well, the Bryston sold. So at this moment I’m listening to the 6Ts in a bizarre little system.  Sonos Connect into Classe’ AV preamp into old Onkyo home theatre amp. Amp and pre on bypass. It is 75w into 8 and god-knows-what into 4. It is certainl...
Bi-Amping with one amp?
The point is moot now. The Bryston has sold. Didn't even have time to try bi-amping.
