Is there a better DAC than the Schiit Bifrost for $300? Topping D50 & SMSL SU-8 Schiit even said their $100 Modi 3 (which is good) is the best DAC they’ve made (in terms of measurements), due to it being the first DAC they’ve actually tested while designing (measurement gear is >$10K typically).
To DAC or not to DAC? @gwbeers 🤘 And yes, I wouldn’t buy from anyplace that didn’t have a good return policy. Now, return shipping is something I’d pay if I knew it was amazing for the price (or else it would get factored in to a degree anyway), but I’ve seen places ...
To DAC or not to DAC? @gwbeers The ~$1800 Benchmark DAC3B is basically totally transparent; so no, a $3000 DAC is wasting money. And again, there are DACs almost as good as the DAC3B that’s much cheaper.
To DAC or not to DAC? You can do your research and find out that something like an SMSL SU-8 is already on the verge of being totally transparent (if looking at measurements, look at version 2 of AudioScienceReview’s review). Unless doing heavy DSP, there really is no ...
Looking for a preamp used under 5k The Bryston BP-17^3 is under $4K new for the bass model, and John Atkinson of Stereophile said that it’s hard to imagine anything else performing better. The Benchmark LA4 is also a serious contender.
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @boxer12 Speaker cables will result in power loss and sometimes frequency response deviation in the bass (damping factor). Output loss will be well below 1dB, and in most cases below 0.5dB, so no, speakers cables won’t affect soundstage width.
Best PC motherboards for USB Audio? The soundcard’s amount of jitter is actually pretty irrelevant, as any decent DAC (even cheap DACs will reduce jitter to below CD quality and better ones to below 24Bit quality. As long as it’s not a random one you found on eBay, you’ll be fine.
Should I be concerned by these jitter measurements and if so what can I do about it? Network jitter is digital package delay, which just results in a needed buffering amount. It’s totally different than the signal jitter that a DAC deals with.
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @chrisg1000 Well, I would like to hear the possibility; other than “sounding better”, because you still didn’t explain what differences you heard.
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @chrisg1000 I was asked a question so I answered. What makes a speaker have good soundstage width is actually a pretty simple question, so nothing really to debate. Again, what I don’t know, is why you are hearing a difference; it’s not jitter a...
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @boxer12 Soundstage width is an aspect of the recording, the speakers, and the room. So it depends what aspect you want to measure. For speakers, it’s simply directivty, how attenuated the signal gets off-axis. Soundstage depth is done via time/...
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @chrisg1000 I’m nuts yet you hear a difference you cannot explain? See, this is very typical, audio forum discussions that result in name calling. It could be a grounding issue with the amp which is affected by the power of the signal given ove...
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @chrisg1000 Speaker cable can have difference in say interference (twisted cables help for longer runs), so yes. @nonoise Sorry, but none of that is factually sound. Test equipment can indeed not hear, but it can measure everything that we are ...
Help an old guy with connection question please RCA out of streamer to RCA in on integrated amp.
Why does my DAC sound so much better after upgrading digital SPDIF cable? @chrisg1000 No measurements for that, but I do have for the Hugo 2: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?attachments/chord-hugo-2-dac-jitter-measurement-p... Excellent jitter reduction as well. Indeed, regardless of a test, you di... |
