DAC - Aqua Formula or Aqua La Scala
https://www.stereophile.com/content/anthem-electronics-str-da-integrated-amplifier-measurements If the DAC in the STR preamp is similar to better to the one in the STR integrated, I highly doubt you will get an audible improvement regardless of D...
Will the SA8005 decode MQA?
It does not. I personally am against MQA (I don’t care at all about the format, even though it’s not better than PCM, but the implications and limitations are what get me, such as no digital volume control and no inherent allowance for DSP). The...
Need a new subwoofer for music > HT in main room
@big_greg PSA’s owner didn’t just come from SVS, he’s literally the V in their name. He makes good subs too; for wanting subsonics I would go Rythmik, but if you only care about 20Hz and above, PSA is a excellent rival. SVS’ higher end models ar...
Tool fan needs help with speakers (and electronics)
Will you add room treatment (including a nice rug and pad underneath? If keeping the way it is, something from Ohm Walsh may be of interest. Otherwise: * Outlaw RR2160: ~$900* NHT C4: $2000 or Polk LSiM 707: $2100* 2x Rythmik F12-300: $1400 (yo...
Need a new subwoofer for music > HT in main room
If you want better than full range performance, the Rythmik is the best choice. The SB-2000 is good, Audioholics rates it for a medium sized room based on its volume output, your space is a bit larger. The Rythmik is about the same in loudness. ...
Ifi Spdif purifier
@lowrider57 https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-ifi-ipurifier-... You are correct, an LPS does improve its performance. That said, the tests also show that the Gustard U12 performs better nativel...
Looking for speaker recommendations
In terms of transparency (hearing the music, not your speakers), Vivid Audio is most likely the best on that list. I would say that adding subwoofers and room treatment would also be heavily worthwhile; dual Rythmik F12’s would be very good; GIK a...

DSD vs PCM .. Truth or Myth
@folkfreak I am skeptical if recording straight to 1-Bit (DSD) is possible. If you have to do any editing at all, it has to enter PCM, as even DXD (the editing format for DSD) is PCM. DSD is no more accurate “to the original event” than PCM; the...
Amp "timing" ?
@stevecharm The only maeasurable parameter that might, and I emphasize might, be involved here is the amplifier slew rate, that is, how many volts/microsecond can it increase?Slew rate really doesn’t effect how “quick” the amp is, though it seems...
Benchmark AHB2 Amplifier, opinions and competition
Amps using Hypex should give good competition, such as the ATI AT522NC or AT542NC. The only downside to the Benchmark is “only” 100W into 8ohm; though I doubt you even need 25W with your setup.
DSD vs PCM .. Truth or Myth
@melm There is not a single DSD recording that did not start off as PCM. Even if worked on in DXD, that’s still PCM (24/352.8). You can’t transfer analog straight to DSD either, at least not to my knowledge.    Still, my claim about it not being ...
Sub Woofer set up
@gillatgh Zero issues with LFE. Taken directly from your linked website: In a living-room sized room, the most desirable setup is to run all the speakers as SMALL, and send the fully MANAGED BASS (NOT ’just’ LFE) to the SUB(s)@cavy As I’ve expl...
DSD vs PCM .. Truth or Myth
@junzhang10   You can have 5ch LPCM. Some anime Blu-rays use it instead of paying the liscensing fees for Dolby/DTS, same with some video games.
DSD vs PCM .. Truth or Myth
@Elizabeth PCM has no issues with high frequencies (unless your DAC has a complete garbage filter). So, DSD is not more accurate, it does have more high frequency noise, you may like it better, that’s not my stance.  EDIT: Not saying it’s a crap ...
