Aerial 10T Beware
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE INFO. Mike
Which CD side to touch the plastic sleeve?
Ketchup - the bit about not picturing the faces of the CDs (with bandames, label imprints etc) could have something to do with royalties and trademarks or somesuch. As for your comments, Clbeans - you've learned the hard way like so many of us have...
Budget Turntable Cartridge Suggestions
I third the Shure M97XE suggestion. Very affordable and has a user-replaceable stylus as well. I was substantially more impressed with it than the budget Goldring Elan and Eroica carts (same body, different stylus.)
Hum from Silversmith interconnect
Swap L/R channels with the cables and see if it follows the cable. I've also seen cases where the depth at which a plug mates to the jack makes a difference, but that's usually a sign of marginal jacks or poor mounting of the jacks/backplate desig...
Should I add a DAC ?
Bel Canto DAC 1.1 at under $600 will substantially improve the sound of that player - this is just one possibility. The above cost estimates for DACs to improve on the Music Hall don't match my experiences with that unit. I wouldn't expect most us...
Any experience of Planet 2000 with Bel Canto DAC2?
To follow up on my earlier comments, I did try different power cables on the Planet 2000 the other day, using it as a transport. Wow - they make a much bigger difference than I would ever have expected. I was quite surprised. A transport just send...
Who u gots da most uv???
Sean - very interesting choice. I only have their first album, and find it quite intriguing. If you haven't, you might be interested in SABBAT, Martin Walkyier's earlier band. Same scathing commentary - sometimes oblique, sometimes more direct. Mu...
Any experience of Planet 2000 with Bel Canto DAC2?
My pleasure to comment! If you get a chance to try one, based on your preferences, you may really enjoy the Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Oval interconnects. They're about $250 or so used for a 1m pair. The Hero is a very timbrally pleasant sounding c...
Any experience of Planet 2000 with Bel Canto DAC2?
I have almost exactly what you're proposing... I have a Planet 2000 with Analysis Plus Digital Oval cable and a Bel Canto DAC 1.1 - it is a truly awesome combo for the money. The Digital Oval is a great match in this setup. It blew away the LAT In...
Can anyone rec a sound card with optical output ?
Hoontech makes add-on daughterboards for the ubiquitous and cheap Soundblaster LIVE series of cards. It's what I use in my computer - SB Live to CI Audio VDA1 DAC via toslink. Soundcard + daughter board should set you back no more than $70 total. ...
Who Was Your Favorite One Hit Wonder
Yeah, Mr. Big Stuff was Jean Knight - just looked it up on allmusic.com. It was her only top-ten hit, according to the bio. Sam the Sham - the DJ announced that name after the song, but had played "Little Red Riding Hood" just before. Another "alm...
VGA cable length
Speaking VGA-->VGA (HD15 to HD15), you should be fine up to 20-25' or so. I don't think HD15 --> BNC really changes anything, just the termination, if that's your situation. You're totally in fair territory for VGA. Beyond 20-25' or so, you'd...
Who Was Your Favorite One Hit Wonder
Did Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs also do a version of "Mr. Big Stuff"? (am I thinking right, it's the Motown soul song with the "Whod'ya-whod'ya-whod'ya think you are?" refrain) There could be several versions... it's before my time. I heard it o...
Name 1 Cable in your system you could not live w/o
Actually, I do have a strong power cord nomination to start off with - Nordost Vishnu power cords on my Quicksilver Horn Monos (using KT88s in this case.) This combination yields great speed, detail and tight bass from 25w per side.
Who Was Your Favorite One Hit Wonder
Ben - you're absolutely right. The B-Side of "Turning Japanese" in the US was a SONG called "Talk Talk". Talk about a mixup!!! My mind is not what it used to be, must have been those Vapors. So maybe the Vapors qualify ; ) LOL
