about to jump into the power cord foray Good advice from Kotta. The only reason you would need a new power cord is if the old one is frayed, the female end has become loose, or it is drastically undersized. Paying more than a total of $20 or so $ for a power cord is a complete waste of ...
B&W Nautilus 804s and clipping When testing the tweeter be sure to feed the speaker a signal that will truly test the tweeter. B&W sets there crossover for the tweeter rather high for the 800 series floorstanders. All vocals and 95 percent of the fundamental frequencies fro...
Any B&W 802D/800D alternatives looks and sound? This is a question that cannot be answered by anyone other than yourself. You will get many different responses to this but it really depends on your own perception, in other words, you are the only one who can tell if another speaker images as we...
Integrated amp for B&W 805S under $1200? I have heard the 805S' driven with a mcintosh 6900 integrated, Rotel separates, and a 100w Yamaha reciever (yes, I said it, "receiver"). The 805 got about as loud as you would want to go on a bookshelf (about 90 db peaks on Von Karajan's Eroica fr...
Studio monitors as Audiophile speakers ATC, PMC I listened extensively to the Dynaudio (model with a "5" in the model name) and the genelec 8430 - I thought they sounded great. The idea of a powered speaker is technically a much much better idea than the typical audiophile speaker - the amps ar...
Power Cord Question The third prong provides a ground path from the chassis of your equipment to earth. The purpose of the third wire is safety - so that if the chassis inadvertantly becomes hot a breaker trips, or at minimum the ground wire provides an easier path f...
Why do we enjoy listening to music ? Actually, not everyone likes to listen to music. Only persons of superior intellect, a profound understanding of the world, and a highly developed sense of humility enjoy listening to music. Don't you agree ?
question about breaking in speakers and amp The whole idea of break-in doesn't wash. A solid state system is broken in about 15 seconds after you turn it on the first time - speakers included. Tubes do need to warm up, but not in any different manner the first time you turn it on than the 2...
Mcintosh or Classe good choice
Mcintosh or Classe I listened to the Classe 200 watt 2 channel and the mac 402 - like night and day - CLasse makes bigger amps but the 200 watt just could not compare with the mac. TO me it just did not have the power - it was driving B&W 802's - just couldn't d...
Still working on choosing a power amp suggest using the mc402 on the 4 ohm taps for the 803s - that is what I do and it sounds great - plenty of power - I am using a mcintosh ss preamp - compared to the mac tubes and the audio research tubes - the mc220 would be my choice for a tube p...
Ground Loop Mordenmail - it is highly unlikely that you have anything wrong with any of your components. The solution of connecting all your chasses and having one wire to ground addresses the most common cause of ground loop hum - either one of your chassis ...
Ground Loop Note - by chassis I am referring to the metal case of each piece of equipment. Do not stick anything through the vents, to not connect anything to any component, do not insert anything into the interior of the equipment. Doing so is dangerous and ...
Ground Loop in reponse to your question about connecting chasses - loosen a chassis screw on each item and connect via spade connectors. Earth ground would ideally be a ground rod - but the street side of the water pipe works fine or for that matter the elect...
Ground Loop Connect all chasses together, so that you have one electrical point, use large guage wire. Now use one path to earth from the chassis - i.e. one wire. This should eliminate a ground loop problem. |
