Separates w/internal phono vs Integrated + phono
Only problem with that plan is I won't know how it sounds through an integrated until that comes into the picture. Finding a better phono stage isn't my objective its in context of downgrading from separates.
Separates w/internal phono vs Integrated + phono
Into the details: I own a Modwright LS100 w/phono / KWA100SE combo. The phono stage is not an after thought and has been very well designed and received. Fantastic system but does it maximize my front end which is DV XV-1s/Rave One/TW 10.5? probab...
Separates w/internal phono vs Integrated + phono
I understand there are lots of variable that can influence and change specific results but it's a very general question and given a range of equipment to work with (which I don't have access to) I could probably understand what path has the most p...
Handheld Recorders for Vinyl Recording
Interesting, the Korg offers higher resolution recording with a 1/8 cable input. The Tascam offers 96/24 resolution but with a line level XLR connection. Any idea which is more important? I also looked at the Zoom and other recorders but not 100% ...
APO Doors Reissues
Hi Corby, interesting way of looking at it but I suspect your system leans on the bright side. My findings are it varies from title to title but in general what I hear is the new 45rpms have 100% of what is on the original 1st pressing + improved ...
APO Doors Reissues
Maybe something is wrong with your AC3 :-) They sound fine on my Raven One/10.5/XV-1s and yes I have compared them to US 1st pressings.
APO Doors Reissues
Whats the best pressing of a specific title is subjective and very dependent on the quality of your gear and the sound signature you choose when you bought your cartridge, TT, Phono amp, amp, speakers. I can also see people leaning to different pr...
Cartridge find Audio Technica AT155LC - any good?
Thanks Halcro, I won't know the condition of the stylus (original) until I mount it. If it's as good as you state what replacement stylus should I consider? That also leads me down the path of what MM phono should I consider? My main phono has onl...
Music Format, too many? which way to go?
The question isn't specifically about me as I will be taking my vinyl with me to the grave. I am curious what the current and upcoming generation of music lovers will do. Not the MP3 casual listener but the kids that want to explore an expand thei...
XV-1S and Antiskate
Thanks Doug for the comprehensive answer and you bring some clarity to this issue. I know the XV-1s is a fantastic tracker so much so that I thought it might hiding the need for more anti skate. The grooveless record test just suggested that some ...
PS AUDIO P500 as a Turntable speed controller?
I used to use a P500 with my Naim Armageddon to set the speed 100% correct and spin at 45rpm (the Armageddon only does 33rpm). It also improved the sound of the TT probably reducing the motor noise and vibration. Make sure you get a unit that allo...
Graham Phantom: Set Up Error Causes Skipping
Check the arm lift, it might be resting too close to the arm combined with wrong VTA makes the arm stick to the arm rest.
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Quick update, my MintLP arrived last week and went through the process of aligning the cartridge. Shocked to find out the Graham tools aren't 100% accurate. Had to adjust the placement of the arm slightly as well as the cartridge. Everything snapp...
Vintage Phono Stage? pros and cons
Interesting responses! I currently have a Modwright SWLP with the internal phono section. Sounds great and is fantastic value for the money. I have been rebuilding my system from the TT (Raven One/Phantom/XV-1s) down and suspect there is more to b...
Graham Phantom DV XV-1s setup question
Doug, interesting I wonder if I can take this idea further and state that the game with the XV-1s is to minimize pressure on the cantilever to maximize the vibration rather than the efficiency of the tracking the needle. In other words the cartrid...
