Subwoofer Basics Help
The issue I'm looking at resolving in my system is my speakers don't fully open up on the bottom end at low volume. My system has to be "loud" in my wife's opinion to fully open up. I'm ok with this listening level most of the time but would like ...
Subwoofer Basics Help
2 subwoofers seems to be popular. At what price point does a single subwoofer out perform using 2 subwoofers? Are there issues with subwoofers feeding AC noise into systems or grounding issues that impact the rest of the equipment?
Should We Prioritize Detail In Our Assessment Of Audio Quality?
@charles1dad Yes digital has come a long way but has equally taken an interesting turn back to the R2R designs for good reason. The R2R designs in general are more musical, some not as detailed but they underpin the music better.
Should We Prioritize Detail In Our Assessment Of Audio Quality?
This article from Stereophile explains it very well IMO. Pace, rhythm and timing. A system can have massive amounts of detail and fundamentally miss the performance. Over the years I have learned how to evaluate equipment upgrades, this article he...
Should We Prioritize Detail In Our Assessment Of Audio Quality?
A photo is a stagnant image, music is moving and changing with timing, attack, decay, sustain. There is the interaction between instruments. A good system needs to get those elements correct first, added detail if not properly balanced can ruin th...
Should We Prioritize Detail In Our Assessment Of Audio Quality?
This is an article from Stereophile many years ago that changed how I looked at equipment. The summation of detail doesn’t always give you the same musical performance. Its about music and performance for me not about sound. Some equipment heighte...
Changing USB input on DAC to Coax SPDIF?
@jaytor The need for the USB driver on a laptop is the issue that confuses me. Doesn't the driver help the computer recognize and function with the DAC? But why does a streamer like say the Ifi Stream not require a driver to do the same thing? Is ...
Changing USB input on DAC to Coax SPDIF?
The Isis is the same design as the Saturn R, the only digital input is USB. Does the Raspberry Pi require the Rega driver installed on it? I'm looking at simple streaming options like an Ifi Zen Stream vs a laptop. I want to stream from a hard dri...
Transports: Simaudio, Pro-ject, Jays
Update, I decided to go a different direct. I was just about to pull the trigger on the Project then a new Rega Isis came up for $5k. I have the Rega Osiris amp so this option was very attractive. The Isis and Osiris are full balanced and are desi...
Advice needed re: new CD player purchase
FYI I just bought a new Rega Isis on a huge discount, around $5k US. Its normally just over $10k. I already have a really good DAC and was actually shopping for a transport. I was considering the Pro-ject transport at $3k but when the Isis popped ...
Transports: Simaudio, Pro-ject, Jays
@amorstereo Did you try the different connections on the Pro-ject? I currently use coax and am curious if there are benefits using the AES or the I2S connection.
Transports: Simaudio, Pro-ject, Jays
I'm not looking for SACD playback, I'm more concerned about the red book layer on the SACD being playable.Pro-ject lists Hybrid SACDs, I just assumed that is the red book layer. Can it read the SACD layer as well?
pro-ject cd box rs2 vs jays audio cd2 mk3
@jaymark Are there any character differences between the 2 transports? Or is it the same but better across all parameters?
pro-ject cd box rs2 vs jays audio cd2 mk3
The PS Audio only plays SACD into a PS Audio DAC, correct? If you are using a different DAC its a mute point and in theory it would make the transport more complicated and in theory more ways to break down?
A phenomenal new CD transport-Pro-Ject CD Box RS2 transport
The Project is on my radar as well as the PS Audio transport. Some Project users have complained about having a noisy unit which concerns me. The PS Audio seems more complicated, more ways to break down? It has an innovation that removes the noise...
