Abraxas - 180 gram audiophile pressings? I believe that the pressing referred to is one of the recent domestic Columbia 180g pressings, ALL of which are apparently utter crap. Saw another reference to disappointment with Abraxas at AA. I bought the Art Blakey "Drum Suite" with regrets. T...
I don't remember much, but I remember...... I don't remember the first LP that I bought (I'm pretty sure it was lame), but thankfully I remember the first LPs that I PLAYED (to the chagrin of my older sibs). At about age 6 or so, I played and played (and played) S&G "Bookends,", "Tommy"...
Rs labs RS-A1 tonearm - opinions Thanks Richard, but I've already seen the formal reviews. I'm looking for practical experience with this arm from "the rest of us."
Crosby, Stills & Nash Album Deju Vu A pretty respectable copy of this album can be found as a Dutch brown vinyl pressing (SD-19118). I think Simply Vinyl attempted this one as one of their earliest releases, but true to their track record (hehe, unintentional pun) it was quickly yan...
This is bugging me Contact A-gon member KEVPERRO. He assembles and sells the Bob Crump designed power cable. The proceeds go to a fund for the adoption of children from overseas. So in one fell swoop your neurosis can be cured AND you can feel all warm and fuzzy for...
Marantz CDR500,.. up to the task? I've had one of these for some months now, and I'm quite pleased with the purchase. It is a sturdy unit, surely up to the task you describe. The sound quality of the copies is excellent to my ear, whether digital to digital or analog to digital. G...
What is the best solid state moving coil phono section? I would put the Michell Delphini dual-mono unit on the short list for audition.
Any one ever tried building a turntable or tone arm? Like you, I recently had a chance to hear a Teres and was duly impressed - so much so that my former table is history, and a finished Teres with the gorgeous wood base is on order! It is a "homegrown" variant of the Eurokit (Scheu) design. Follow ...

Mo Fi box sets $1200 for a MoFi Beatles Box is just obscene. $400 is pretty reasonable, as it is a pretty good product overall, with two egregious exceptions - MMT and the White Album. Dogs, both of 'em. I preferentially reach for the good 'ol Japanese red monos...
Moving coil cartridge (AT OC-9) and Hum What about the connection and dressing of the headshell leads? Another thought is degaussing the cartridge. Just "thinking out loud." Good Luck.
DENON DL-130,Still a good cartridge? Got my DL-103 last week from a shop in Germany. It's the "standard" 103 (not D or R suffix), and the performance for the modest price is quite good. The stylus shape obviates resolution of the finer details, but I don't have a particularly hi-rez ...
TT opinions please Rfj - I'm not sure what you consider "affordable," but moreso out of curiosity I purchased a new Denon DL-103 from a shop in Germany delivered for $120. At the price the performance of this low-output MC is extraordinary. I paid over 12 times as m...
Tube preamp with remote for 1K used I'm quite happy with the Melos SHA Gold Reference. Throw in some Siemens E188CC or Ccas and it really sings. No need to upgrade for quite awile, AFAIC. Good luck in your search. |
