Help.... I'm scared to 'upgrade'!
Those 2 nice cartridges you have (Cadenza Black, Umami Red) are electrically in the "sweet" range for a SUT (15x - 20x), so you might consider one of those partnered with an MM stage. Hum / grounding can be a pain with these, but if you do it righ...
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2
@gakerty i think it’s another thread and OP that didn’t like the Rogue Stereo 100. I got a bit confused myself. And I agree everything I’ve heard from others and experienced myself indicates that the ST100 should be a stellar amp choice for many.
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2
@88man  Thanks again for your thoughts regarding coupling caps! Definitely got me thinking again on the modern Rogue gear. This may not be helpful due to the cost involved, but since you mentioned this your opening post: I like to fuse the eup...
Integrated tube amp vs Tube amp?
@mulveling  i agree completely but with a cary audio SLP-05 and a Pass XA25 I still miss the sound of the Cronus Magnum II.  I have class A solid state quickness but missing whatever the CM II tube amp did.  And the stereo 100 was not "it".  Too...
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2
I’m wondering if the RP-7 can also benefit from upgrading the coupling caps - the EVO Oil is not a super cap... I make my own speakers, and I use Mundorf Supreme Silver Oil, Duelund Cu, Jupiter Cu caps in the crossovers, and I find that they ren...
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2
I can confirm, I had an rp-9 and it had no warmth, so take care with system matching on that. The older Rogue 6H30 preamp line of Athena / Hera had more warmth (not a traditional tube warmth to be sure, but still there). The rp-9 actually had fant...
Tannoy anyone? Cheviot Legacy vs. Stirling GR
@budburma Hoping it turns out well for you! I’d suspected maybe they were still selling though Scotland-made stock for a while after the factory closing. Thanks for that confirmation. Thought I’d add some pics from when I had my R speaker’s woo...
Integrated tube amp vs Tube amp?
truth be told I miss the sound of the Cronus Magnum integrated.  The only thing it was ultimately missing is that last ounce of speed and dynamics compared to my current tube preamp / solid state amp.  But the overall sound was often simply gorge...
Speaker static/hiss?
Your speakers have slightly higher than average sensitivity. A21+ is a good amp that looks like a reasonable pairing here. That Marantz though - a 13.2 channel preamp? Holy cow! That thing is so chock full of multi-channel features they don’t even...
Integrated tube amp vs Tube amp?
There are 2 schools of thought on preamps:  Preamp should "add to sound quality" and "preamp should be invisible".   Integrated tube amps usually are looking for the 2nd path to success.  So if you're in that school of thought, integrated tube a...
Speaker static/hiss?
It’s caused by suboptimal gain structure. You have way too much active gain after the volume control (this means your combined preamp and amplifier circuitry - which generates higher noise floor per extra dB of gain even if signal-to-noise remains...
Integrated tube amp vs Tube amp?
In most cases, I would say yes - you'll get more performance from a pure tube amp. Tube integrated amps often have very simplistic preamp & volume stages in order to fit into the same box & budget. Simplistic is fine, but...if you hear an ...
Could this be true, or am I getting the run around.?
If it does have static sensitive parts, why they heck didn’t they isolate / protect those parts properly? Computers, TVs are chock full of sensitive parts. Literally no other consumer product has this problem.
Benz SLR Gullwing, not sensitive to loading?
You should definitely hear a difference from 100 ohms to 47k. Sounds like something's off in the loading setup, though I can't guess what that might be. The signal loss from 100 ohms loading, on the 38 ohm SLR or LPS coils, is almost 3 dB (versus ...
Could this be true, or am I getting the run around.?
Sounds like you got the runaround. So what if "static" caused it? Dry air is a common environmental condition of audiophile music rooms during winter. They need to at least design products that are protected from the typical environment they will ...
