Which is the most tubelike solid state amp around
hi blindjim:perhaps victor is just being honest. it is certainly not in his interest to compare his preamps unfavorably. or, do you believe that victor can't hear the difference between preamps ?
Which is the most tubelike solid state amp around
based upon one of tvad's connotation of "tube like", i'd say it cannot be found in the performance of any solid state amp. i received a confirmation that a solid state amp would not sound like a tube amp, from victor khomenko, of balanced audio te...
resolution and imaging
when listening to music there is a a "level" of clarity. unfortunately i think most stereo systems sound clearer than what i would observe at a concert hall.i do not want to hear the turning of pages, the movement of a chair, as such non musical "...
resolution and imaging
hi tvad:in order to decrease resolution, i either turn off the stereo or disconnect the tweeter, depending upon my mood.

soundstaging is not real. when listening to a symphony orchestra from the last row, there is no localization. it is difficult or near impossible to hear individual violinists in the string session. rather one perceives a string ensemble.regarding ...
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
hi kevziek:i own a marantz 11s2. it is very focused, precise and hard sounding.my experiences have been confirmed by other marantz owners, including one who is selling a marantz 11s1.there is nothing smooth about the marantz 11s2. further i have h...
resolution and imaging

break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
i am not alone in my perceptions of the marantz reference sacd players. there is one service which promises to eliminate the nasties by replacing the caps.i think a tube power supply, rectifier and buffer stage would be helpful for these players.
break-in for Marantz SA-7S1
i have over 500 hours on my marantaz 11s2. i perceive hardness, a balanced frequency response and a very precise and focused presentation.my player is currently advertised for sale on audiogon.
Best universal player under $1000?
what, no tubed players ? how do you avoid ear fatigue without a tube in a cd player ?
Marantz SA7S1 owners - stock or modded
hi john:it's not the turntable, it's the cartridge. i have a cd player, the naim cdx, circa 1994, sound better than any turntable/arm/cartridge combination i have ever heard.many cartridges are frequency unbalanced. some of the older players, e.g....
Marantz SA7S1 owners - stock or modded
hi phillyb:i own a marantz 11s2. it has about 500 hours of signal fed through it, including 3 hours of the purist audio design break-in disk.i find the sound of the marantz very precise, focused, somewhat mechanical and definitely unnatural. perha...
Martin Logan Vantage vs Infinity RS 1b
why not borrow a pair of martin logan speakers and decide for yourself ?
It's 2008, what speakers deserve recognition.
analysis audio, although perhaps not a "value" speaker, is a ribbon design, which looks like an apogee speaker.
