Standalone VU Power Meters?
I believe all you had to do was connect the meter to the speaker out of the amp. Can't vouch for their accuracy. I have an RS LED model somewhere. Also have a Heathkit AD1701 (LED) that can connect via speaker or line level. I think that Onkyo used...
Why are my mosfet fuses blowing?
I drove my CS5i's with a CA400. I blew the Mosfet fuses once while listening at only moderate levels. After replacing the fuses I found that one side of the amp (channel) was running hotter than the other. It tuned out that the output devices need...

Looking for reasonably priced sound diffusion.
Sorry for beating this to death, but I found the original site that I wanted to mention. mh-audio.nl ,acoustic calculators galore for DIY. Go to the online calculator section, not the download section. You will find all the info that you need to d...
Looking for reasonably priced sound diffusion.
I forgot to ad that pmerecords.com also has plan for a DIY Skyline QRD and a link to a calculator for specific freq designs. The calcultor is part of a larger site that also has calculators to design all the different diffuser styles.
Looking for reasonably priced sound diffusion.
Go over to subwoofer-builder.com . They have an extensive article on DIY QRD and Skyline style diffusors. The Skyline styles are quite easy to DIY and will cost far less than your target price of $80 each.
cheaper coupling caps on a budget
Parts Connection has 15% off film caps right now (V-Caps excluded) If you are looking for a Teflon coupling cap, cheap may not be an option. I would search the Tweaker forum over at the Asylum. Coupling and bypass caps are discussed there quite a ...
Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please
I've owned 2B's, MMG's, 3.6's and currently listen with Avantgarde Duo Omega horns. I agree with all of the above but need to add what I feel is a criticle point. In my experience, until you are really pushing the Maggies, they won't sound their b...
Pass Labs XP-10 / Directv remote crossing
Does your Directv have the RF option for control? If it does, you will just need the Directv RF remote. Using RF instead of IR will solve the problem.
Are 6as7g tubes becomming harder to find?
Just look on Ebay. Search 6N13S and 6AS7G, plenty of Eastern European sellers. I retubed my M60's for about $200 for 24 tubes.Shipping took about 2 weeks. Not one failure, though my amps are the Mark III versions.
Horns for HT?
You may want to take a look at the system gallery on the Avantgarde site. There are a few 5 Solo HT systems. It may be more than you want to spend, but at least they are self amplified.
12AX7/LPS Sovtek - I am very confused, please help
I have found that sometimes grid emmision testers do not provide the same results as mutual conductance testers. Tubes that tested replace or bad on my grid emmision tester often have very high gm values with my mutual conductance tester. How does...

Need Help Choosing a Tube Preamp for a Classe Amp
For many years the "synergistic" combo was Audio Reasearch pre, Classe amp, Thiel speakers and all MIT cabling. I have followed this guide line with great success with Thiel 2 2s and 5is. Pre's were LS15 and Ref1. Amps CA100 and CA400. Cabling MIT...
OTL recommendations for 105+ sensitivity horns
I'm running Atma-Sphere M60MkIII OTLs with Avantgarde Duo Omegas 108 dB sensitive horns. At first I did have noise issues to deal with, but due to my own fault. A terrible hum that I had never heard before with 92 dB sensitive speakers. I had a gr...
