Unreadable CDs: unscientific testing
Interesting post Sean. I had the same problem with a CD but used Mapleshade's Micro Smooth to fix it. Oddly, this CD played fine in my Classe .3 ,but my CDT-1 had a problem with it. Go figure.....
help me select a single tube to "calm down" a preamp?
Personaly I've had a tough time rolling tubes in my ARC LS-15. While there are a lot of good/great NOS tubes that will do the job, I find it difficult to get good examples. I still keep going back to the stock tubes. While ARC does charge a premiu...
Upgrading CP35 Preamp, Sugestions?
Tom, the jump to the DR-6 was a big improvemnt over the 30. Better soundstage, improved presentation. But my DR-6 was an older model that did not have balanced outs or a remote. I borrowed the LS-15 from a local dealer to try out. The tube pre was...

Upgrading CP35 Preamp, Sugestions?
I went from a Classe Model 30 to a Classe DR-6. I then tried a ARC LS-15 tube pre. The LS-15 performed the best with my CA-100 and CA-400 amps. A lot of folks suggested a tube pre and they were right. Good luck!
no body is buying anything on audiogon
I have to agree that the economy plays a big role in high end audio. You also have to remember that we're in the middle of summer. People have their minds set on vacation and travel. It's obvious that the forum traffic along with the amount of gea...

Tips on finding "hum" problems
Of course, dedicated isolated circuits are your best bet for your equipment power. Try to stay away from multi wire branch circuits. This is when opposite hot legs share the same neutral on a pair of branch circuits. I forgot to mention this.
Tips on finding "hum" problems
Sorry Sean, it got a bit long......
Tips on finding "hum" problems
When I have a call to investigate hum, I first check to see if any equipment on site is the source of the problem. This is done by turning the branch circuits off one at a time to see if it makes a difference. Air conditioning, heat pumps, refrige...
Help!! Low level hum from FM cable sgnl
Jbherrin is right on with reference to the difference of potential. It's something that should be checked.
Main line voltage from PG E
If you feel that you need the voltage, you can wire up a small boost transformer and plug it in series with your power cords. A 6 volt boost would give you 122v. The only worry would be if they turn the juice back up. The transformer wouldn't be t...
Technical question to MAGNEPANs Owners ?
Let me add that the freq response is very good down to around 50 hz for sure. Very solid using a 35w push/pull class A tube amp.
Technical question to MAGNEPANs Owners ?
I've recently picked up a pair of used MG IIB's. They had sat for quite awhile unused. I fired them up as soon as they were delivered. The sound was good but not great. After a day or 2 and several hours of playing, things really improved. I don't...
"Whole house" surge protection.
Surge protection has to be addressed as a system. The arrestor on your service entrance will knock the surge down to a point but not completely. Point of use protection is requird at the equipment in addition to the service, to take the surge. Alw...
