Boulder 866—Why Did You Sell?
@helomech , I hope you are well. I see this trend with many pieces of audio gear, as it never seems to stop. Audiophilia is a disease (not necessarily a bad thing), and I understand it, completely. However, I do feel there are too many listeners (...
I could have started this on the cables thread.....but....
@lordmelton Brad has been extremely professional with me during my cable design/purchase process. In my case, the cable is "set and forget", meaning it suspends from the preamp chassis down about a meter to the power supply, and all is well. Your ...

Ralph, what do you mean by " if you don’t bypass an umbilical? The cable is directional, and reading Brad’s material talks about grounding at one end (source), and not the other (component). The power cables I have built, I do this the same way. M...

Some miraculous breaking in of the RAL cable going on the last 12 hours. Brad states his cables can take 250-300 hrs. to fully break in.....I have always believed in cable/equipment break in, but this is a preamp that is truly, now, showing what i...

@grunge1000  I am so sorry you are a non-believer. The factory cable was not damaged, but a "throw in", based on keeping the cost down. I am now assuming every other preamp I have owned with an outboard power supply, without question, would have b...

Wow, and not unexpected, doubters of cable differences, jumping in here. The laugh is on you. "Bottleneck"...= anything that delays development or progress. A point of congestion or blockage that leads to inefficiency and delay in a process, syste...

@gbmcleod , @jl35, hope all is well, and thank you for your contributions. My best, MrD.

Ralph, hope you are well, as always. These have always been ss preamps I am talking about. The tube preamps I have owned and used have always been single chassis units, if this makes a difference to what you are saying. My best, MrD.

I have owned many components throughout my lifetime and career where the component designer chose to use an external power supply, typically preamplifiers. PS Audio, Superphon, Forte, Threshold, Pass Labs, B&K, Classe’, Krell and some others. ...
Is my Dynaco Stereo 400 worth repairing for resale?
Likely not very helpful, but I had a few Dyna 400s in my day, with and without meters. I found them to be ok sounding, but that was with analog only sources, different rooms and so on. I cannot speak for today if I would enjoy listening to one. I ...
Music Machine
@larsman I am not sure what tolerance you are speaking of? The gummies I take are cannabis infused, and they do the same for me as the other. As long as it works. My best, MrD.
Music Machine
RV, I hope you are well today. I listen, first, to the musicianship, the performance, and the composition (I consider all three as one). There is a reason I put that music on, at that moment in time. I am not fooled, as these are recordings we are...
is McIntosh known for good dynamics?
Who here is it that stated the Focal Sopra 2 is 98 db efficient? Focal specs them at 91 db. Most amps would be able to drive a 98db efficient speaker, although they have a measured nominal impedance of 8 ohm, and a low of 3.1 ohms. Just a friendly...
No sound
@rvpiano, I responded on your most recent thread posting.
Does loudness play a part in your appreciation?
@kennyc would there not be nagging over the higher volume? .
