78 RPM - Potential for better sound than digital? Well, as good in what way? as low a noise floor? no, but you won't get that with an LP either. I have heard plenty of 78's that sounded better than cd's and many sound bad just like many lp's and cd's sound bad. A key thing is that there is very l...
Which ARC Linestage? well on the cheap side, the sp-14 fet stage was the sleeper. It didn't have that bloated weird sound some of the lower line (and even some upper) arc stages had.
How many People own Working Reel to Reel Decks? i own two studers and two ampex decks as ell as some quarter track machines. I don't play pre-recorded tapes that often but it's a habit i might change.
Question about B&W 801 the crossover is different. I have the limited edition matrix 801's that say "abbey road " on them. They have the series 2 crossovber and tweeter. I changed the crossovers to northcreek which smoothed them out a lot.Now this doesn't make them more...
Thinking of selling my Teres I am curious what you would switch to!
Dunlavy SC VI? i think they are great, had i known how great i would have waited for some when i got my IV's!
Anyone has Dunlavy V impedance Curve? i have found that 4 ohms for the bigger ones does the trick. I think they are float around 6 and then go down.
Blue Note 45rpm reissue no one ever seems to say this so i will say it again...many older records were done through a fairchild limiter and more importantly were hotter in the upper mids and cut louder. I find this to be very true with 1500 series blue notes vs the remas...
Best 5-10 Rock Recordings? i'd have to disagree here. "Brothers in arms" is a lousy recording if you ask me.rock recordings are more about suiting the mood, not pure sonics. also i feel great recording has to have great music in front of it.a few off the top of my headrandy...
Analog - Basic Tools reference tones, out of phase pink noise and a soldering iron are all good. I think a sense of humor is good too. I's very easy to get caught up in wondering why your preamp doesn't resolve the bottom octave on a particualrly dear lp, until you re...
Review: Alaap Audio (Doshi) Mark II Tube preamp I had wanted to write a review of this great preamp too, but had not got around to it so it;s nice to see someone getting Nick a little credit. My previous phono stage was an Aesthetix Rhea. The doshi stage embarrassed it. My previous line stages ...
Galibier owners How do you like your music now? I'm not sure i understand dan. I use a din discovery cable with that armboard. As long as it isn't a right angle one, it seems okay.
STEP UP transformers ?? the BENT's are very good acording to doug deacon whom I trust about everything other than which Moterhead record I should buy next.In the pro audio world, jensen transformers are sort of the last word. I used to run a pair with a lyra helikon and ...
Galibier owners How do you like your music now? i chose a micro seiki max 282 arm. I think the table is wonderful. Very neutral, deep transients, good speed, no bloated sound. Thom is a dream to deal with.
Teres, redpoint or galibier turntable I am very happy with my galibier gavia. Mine has a gavia platter but you can probably get a serac platter and cut some of the cost. Thom is great to work with and I don't plan on ever buying another turntable. |
