Best tubed pre-amp w/phono stage for ss amps? Joule Electra LAP-150 or LAP-100... Killer combo with Edge amps! MM-MC and loading options gallore ...remote too. "I am looking for lots of detail inner detail, black background, air, capable of huge(both depth and width), natural soundstage. I wa...

Does preamp w/Power Supply need a good Power Cord? Not knowing you situation, system, or gear being used... there are a few Tg Audio HSR-i gen2 cords on Agon now, that for the $$ can't be touched. Esp with Solid State gear... They will greatly improve your soundstage (focus, layering...) and PRaT....
How good are grado cartridges I second Rushton's advice, just adding I would opt for the Statement Reference version (.5mV outptut) or the VPI voltage Reference (1.5mV output). I have had a BenzL2, a Shelter 501, now a Celebration v2. I have a good friends Grado VPI output Ref...
Joule Electra La-150 MK2 Don, I think Adampeter is refering to the Gain levels (4db versus 8db) in the line stage, not phono stage. The original LA150 mk1 used a jumper in the line stage on the line stage circuit board near the gain tubes, one for each channel. As opposse...
Most Rockingest Preamp south of $2k used I have yet to hear a more dynamic bass and midbass (micro and MACRO dynamic bass) that matches a midrange that does vocals proud, and just kicks ass than that from a JOULE ELECTRA LA150. (throws a huge stage too!)now... I prefer the 6c45p/6h30 ver...
Which tubed pre to "flesh out" my mids??? Hey Tvad, I hear you on impedance mismastches... but not the case here, as my BC amp has a 100k input impedance. The one thing with the BC preamps is the amount of gain too, as I do prefer the lesser gain of the Joule. Still dynamic!, quiet,... but...
Which tubed pre to "flesh out" my mids??? The Joule's bass is "fleshed out"... not super loose, not tight or damped down. It works for me! BUT in relation, the Blue Circle's bass/midbass is more neutral. I have ALL SORTS of isolation here, TG cones, Aurios, Neuance platforms, ... But that...
Which tubed pre to "flesh out" my mids??? Hey Jman,To me I would add a Blue Circle BC3 to your list...maybe an BC3000 version 1...The Joule (I have a LA150 gen1 here, with the 6c45/6h30 circuit which is the most detailed and neutral of the LA150 gen1 or gen2 preamps I have listened to her...
Stereovox LSP-600c and Merlin? I haven't heard Stereovox here (Basis TT, Joule, Merlin) but your EXACT wish list matches what I received going to Tg Audio speaker cables from Cardas Golden Ref and AU24 here...Hall info, seperation, layering, height of stage, width, depth, wholen...
Joule Electra Owners-What Power Cables? I like the original Electraglide Ac cord(Elrod made) on my LA150... gets the venue and hall info right, as well as layering and seperation. Wet airy and musical; soundstages deep bass too....
What is the "load" end of TG interconnects?? That is correct. The "Load" is the direction the IC goes to. When going from Cd direct to amp, the amp is the "LOAD". Same for Speaker cables, the Speaker is the "LOAD" the amp see's.....Great cables by the way......
amps for Merlin VSM-MXE I would also add to your "Shopping List", the 200 series amps from Blue Circle. I had a Joule 80mk4, and Blue Circle BC2, and was looking for an amp that had more power (Large Symphonic works) say +100 watts, that had the Joule clean OTL sound and...
Best speaker cables for merlin speakers? With VSM III and Sim Audio I'd go Cardas Golden Cross throughout, And be done with it. The Ver3 is less fleshed out than the SE, M, MX, or the super easy to listen to "E" versions. The Golden Cross will fill out the mids and lower mids a bit, it h...
Cartridge upgrade for SME 20/2A??? Most of the above was on Merlin VSM-Se's, which were just upgraded to MX'e' versions end of 06. To be honest, the Xono didn't work out for me either. I preferred the Blue Circle's presentation for sure, although once I heard some detail I was miss... |
