SS amp for Merlin VSMs?
I was looking to upgrade my Joule 100w otl's, sonics wise - I listened to a LOT of stuff, and found the 200 series of amps from Blue Circle to best the Joule here (HUGE stage)... It is SS and way less heat. And as trouble/worry free as it gets... ...
Power cable for quiet background
Also, check out the Blue Circle BC68 mk2 ... basically a SUPER silent power conditioner and cable. Also a HUGE TG Audio fan... but the BC68 is quieter... ultra black backgrounds...Big stage, depth, with great dynamics too... (the BC68 mk2)
New Speaker Cables for Merlin MME
Tubegroover, you "may" be right about other silver - but here you are wrong about Tg. So since you have not listened to it, I am - just a Bobby would chime in about hearing his current versions of Merlins - going to ask you to just sit back on the...
Extra outputs on a Joule LA 100 MK III?
Use that second set of outputs for a pair Subs or powered bass sections of hybrid speakers (Martin Logans or Vandersteen 5a's); or for Bi-amping...
Quietest BUDGET high-current power cord?
I would look at Blue Circle BC62's. They kick ass on monoblock amps here. Bettered Tg SLVR's, Audience PowerChord, Shunyata Taipans, JPS AC+, Cardas Golden Ref... Only on the amps though. The BC62's do not get a lot of publ. but do no harm, as I h...
Power Chord For Cambridge 640C v2
I like the Tg Audio HSR-i, SLVR and early Electraglide's on digital here... The Audience is not bad either, just too forward in the upper mids for me (and it does not stage the bass correctly like the Tg above).
Your definition of soundstage
I would call the soundstage "the goal". With that goal, each system will do it differently, each room different... yes it should be musical, engaging, with magical tonality, dynamic(micro and macro), with PRat,... all important too! (as mentioned ...
Grado Master, Benz Wood body, or Maestro
I have a Grado Statement Ref here, and have owned a BenzL2 (not s class) and by a wide margin prefer the Grado to the Benz. I also have a Lyra and Sumiko Celebration, and the Grado is on par with both - with its strengths being your listed priorit...
TG Audio 688 or Silver vs Black Sand Violet
I am a huge Tg Audio fan! so keep that in mind.... the 688 is more in line with your HSR-I sound wise, and is a bit sweeter than the SLVR. So if you go SLVR, try that on the amp first, with the HSR-I on the digital. If 688, then see which you like...
need help with an audible illusions mod 3a pre-amp
Blue Circle amps (see the bc22 here on Agon) are designed with high gain preamps in mind (like your AI M3A, and BC preamps too). I am very partial to the Blue Circle sound, but I loved my AI M3A when it was here! It throws, or I should say, allows...
phono stage options for Lyra Cartridges
With my Lyra manuf. AQ 7000fe5 (.5mv) which sounds more like the Titan i than the Argo i... I have used a Xono, EAR 834p, and now a Joule Electra OPS1 mk4. The Joule is the most detailed, the most musical, and throws the best soundstage of the gro...
Merlin owners who have modified x-over?
Hey, let me me add to the lovefest... Bobby (like Bob Crump, and Gilbert Yeung, and Aj Conti,....) has been the best advocate of good sound, good advice (thought we might not always agree)... Bobby just wants everyone to have the best f'in sound t...
would a Joule OPS- 1 be an upgrade from an 834P?
I love my Joule OPS-1 mkiv....it sent a Xono packing, being better than the Xono at its own game. Now, it has been awhile since I heard the EAR... and not head to head with either the Pass or the Joule... But the Joule responds to tube rolling, is...
Koetsu vs Dynavector vs Lyra??
Let me just a little something... I have a Lyra manufactured AudioQuest 7000Fe5 (that sounds and stages more like the Titan than the Helikon or Argo-i...) and a Grado .5mv Statement Reference (often reffered as "Koetsu - like")... On A Basis 2001 ...
Sumiko Blackbird
I had a Sumiko Celebration last 8years+ until this past Christmas... :(I had a Sumiko Talisman S for almost a decade before that...(that still plays here, but should be sent to VDH for a rebuild.)I have heard about problems with the BPS before, bu...
