Norah Jones on Bluenote?? From what I understand, she was signed to Blue Note and after she made a CD that was not not as jazzy as was expected, they wanted to move her to another label. Norah insisted that she be on Blue Note, as that is where her influences are. Even tho...
Mark O'Connor- Hot House Trio I haven't heard that release, but Mark's plays so well that sometimes it can sound too perfect. I would recommend the live CD by the same group (without any guests artists). It's called "Hot Swing !". It's his tribute to Stephanne Grappelli and Dj...
Anyone still do insightful or intelligent lyrics? Seems that folk music is where many of the best (and worst) poets are these days. Some of the best IMHO are Iris DeMentGuy ClarkDarrel ScottTom Russell Greg BrownRodney CrowellLoudon Wainwright IIISusan WernerIf you're more into rock or popDave Al...
Good ripping program - no compression The program generally considered the best for ripping CDs to hard drives is a free one called Exact Audio Copy, or EAC. It is slower than most rippers, but has the best sounding results. I tested it a year or two ago with some other rippers and co...
Which CD-R best for Audio? I read that Fuji is now using a different manufacturer for their CD-Rs. I don't know if the ones now found on store shelves are from TY or not. Even before this you had to buy Fuji's that said made in Japan to be assured they were by TY. Here is t...
Any bluegrass fans? For classic bluegrass, find any Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys when he had Flatt and Scruggs. That's when the bluegrass sound really gelled. And was before studios started adding a lot of reverb (mostly a 50 and 60's trend). Some old favorites ...
break-in time for philips 963sa I'd agree to give it a few hundred hours. Probably best to use CDs, SACDs and DVDs too. Out of the box mine sounded really thin, lifeless with little bass. After about 200 hours I modded it with the Black Gate cap and was instantly much happier. H...
Another funny post Maybe the tweeters got scuffed during target practice.
Any Zydeco recommendations? Steve Riley does play more cajun than Zydeco, but that's a line that can be hard to distinguish. I'm not from cajun country, but Riley's music has the drive that I associate with Zydeco. And he definitely does play some zydeco.I see zydeco as a su...
Any Zydeco recommendations? The best release for exploring zydeco is Rhino's"Zydeco Dynamite - The Clifton Chenier Anthology".He's the master and it collects tracks from the manylabels he recorded for over his long career. An important consideration is that zydeco is very mu...
Favourite Guitar CDs For jazz it's hard to beat Wes Mongomery's "Smokin' at the Half Note", or his double CD "The Verve Jazz Sides" which includes the entire Half Note release. Wouldn't recommend many of his later "pop" albums though.
Bad in CD playing and still great in CD reading? There are big differences in the programs which extractWAV files from CD. While it seems like a copy from onedigital medium to another digital medium should be anexact duplicate, that's not the case. That's why someprograms are much faster than ot...
Review: Philips Philips DVD-963SA CD Player Thanks for the review. The 963sa is my first DVD player and was purchased for CD playback. I wasn't real happy with it's sound until I upgraded the main capacitor on the power supply as mentioned by Agonner Ears. (I'd reference his post but it has...
I am confused about 15A and 20A current. Could the tripping maybe be from a worn out circuit breaker ?I had a circuit breaker that seemed to trip too easily so I replaced it with a new one of the same vaule. The problem went away.
Johnny Cash - Rest in Peace One of the true originals. He stripped music down to the very basics and spoke volumes in simple, plain English. His songs spoke to every man. Johnny was even nominated for several MTV awards this year, almost 5 decades after his first recordings.... |
