sample rate conversion quality issues
Continuing Phild's comment, I've heard that if you plan to drop a digital recording to 44K that it's best to record at a sample rate that is an even multiple of 44K. So in that case, recording at 44K or 88K would be better than 48K or 96K. Logical...
Srangest ,most out there sounding music
For a true original try Harry Partch. An American composer who developed his own microtonal musical scale in the 30s and wrote for it until his death in the early 70s. His compositions often combined theater along with his striking and unusual ins...
Music for Passover
For some well recorded and beautifully played Jewish klezmer music you should check out "Songs of our Fathers" on Acoustic Disc by Andy Statman and David Grisman. Andy has a number of other klezmer releases, too.If you like your music on overdrive...

Help Where to start with jazz?????
For starters I'd recommend educating yourself by viewing something like the Ken Burns Jazz series, which you can probably rent. It's not perfect, but there is a huge range of jazz styles and so many performers. And This will give you an idea of th...
Dylan, Richards, and Waits
I hope Bob isn't modelling any Victoria Secret lingerie !By the way, can anyone comment on the latest Dylan "Bootleg Series 6: Concert at Philharmonic Hall". A solo show from, I think, 1964, with Joan Baez on a few tunes. Would especially be inter...
Swiss Army Knife of audio discs
And you didn't even mention that it has that audiophile favorite, Jennifer Warnes. Plus bluegrass songbird Laurie Lewis. Lot's of great pickers too.http://www.johnmceuen.com/dvd.htm
Computer burner tweaks. dampening, isolation, etc
I'm not sure there are any tweaks that improve how the bits are burned onto the CD. Though I have wondered if the act of copying the data to a hard drive and burning it could remove jitter induced during the manufacturing process of the source CD....
I could use some jazz mentoring.
Try Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, or Gerry Mulligan. All sax players with amazing lyrical styles that tend toward mellow, bluesy music.
Any tips on jazz guitar trios or quartets?
All the artists mentioned have laid back stuff and stuff that definitely isn't, so any previewing you can do would be worth your while.Would second Bill Frisell and John Scofield. Also various ECM artists like John Ambercrombie though they may be ...
Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, Guy Clark
"Bring the Family" is Hiatt's best as far as sonic's go and was released by MoFi on LP and gold CD. Also has some of his best songs and great picking by Ry Cooder in an informal live in the studio set. IMO his best rock releases are "Riding with t...
Stupid question of the day: Should I leave Amp on?
Dr. Joe. My Philips 963SA DVD/SACD goes into standy mode when the power is shut off. IMHO, if something hardly draws any power it should probably be left on. Besides costing almost nothing, with little current it could take a very long time for th...
Tom Waitts Where do I begin?
Another great album of Waits covers is Wicked Grin by John Hammond. And it is produced by Tom Waits too.
