Where to listen
Rocky Mountain Audio Fest.
Kharma v Focal v Avalon
However be warned they need to sit at least 5" out into the room, and more can often be better. If you are limited in that way do not lean to any Avalon speaker.Mmike84 (Threads | Answers | This Thread)I'm sorry I meant to say 5' as in 5 ft!
Kharma v Focal v Avalon
I have heard the 3.2 and the Ascendant. If you have SET or low power tubes then you should probably lean to the 3.2 though expect a rear hall, very refined presentation. I was not blown away by what I heard. The Ascendants get my nod but I think th...
YG Acoustics or Dynaudio
Between the two Dynaudio would get the nod from me. I think the C-4 is a very good speaker. That's why they hardly if ever come up used. There is a pair listed right now for $7900.
Integrated amp for Usher Be-718?
Ayre was an excellent combination on my BE-20's at lower volumes, and I suspect it would be an ideal mate to 718's..
Amp for Coincident Super Eclipse
I think it's pretty clear your speakers will pair with just about anything from 8wpc and up SS or tube. That is really one of the best things about Coincident speakers. Just decide what intrigues you the most and go for it. The rest is a matter of...
Speakers suggestions for my setup and room please
You should focus on something efficient. Absolutely not electrostats unless you plan to change amps. I'm sure Ralph at Atma Sphere would suggest some very good pairings.Based on the diversity of your music I'd suggest Coincident. You didn't give a...
Which hdtv would you recommend and why?
LG and Samsung LCD/LEDs have the best picture and functionality wo a doubt but they cost more. I bought a 240 hz LG 55" last week for $1500 free ship on Amazon. It was easy to set up, $700 less than I could find a 240 HZ model locally. Fully inter...
why aren't ribbon tweeters more popular?
I think the down sides are dispersion patterns (in some designs) and difficulty integrating them. However when implemented well they I find them excellent.
Replacing Wilson WattPuppy 5's
Welcome Dr. John. I've always been a fan of your music.I think the Sashas sound much different, and preferable (to my ears) to WP8's. I have not heard WP5's and therefore cannot comment on how they compare. In the numerous times I have heard the So...
Upgrade advice, please.
Your speakers recommend a minimum of 120 WPC which suggests to me they were not designed around sounding their best with tubes. If in fact you need more power which sounds likely, your budget will not allow you to buy the proper tube amp. So if yo...
To all tube lovers.......
In my early days I spent a lot of time with both Krell and Ayre and they do not sound like tubes. I think people mention them because they like them, but they do not fit the criteria of the OP.
To all tube lovers.......
If you're really a tube guy I don't think you'll find a SS amp that you'll want long term. I've owned a lot of them including many that have been mentioned, and others. At first you'll be enamored by the clarity and resolution, but you'll grow tir...
4 Channel Tube Amp
I think your only option is going to two stereo tube amps. If everything is in the same room I would think a 5.1 system would be a better fit for you. Two amps and a powered sub.
Amplifier suggestion for Dynaudio Sapphire
I heard C4's w/ Ref 110's and they sounded flat. I think you need more drive than that.If you're after tubes I'd look at VAC. I have two Phi 200's I'm selling which I used to drive some 83 db electrostats. I tried a lot of amplifiers and they were...
