Recordable CD/DVDs are vanishing too
Probably the bigger issue with CDRs is that you won't have as many brands to choose from as in the past, but the product will still be available.  Just checked the Microcenter web site and they are down to one brand - Verbatim.  Amazon still has s...
Advice on Sterling LS3/6
I haven't heard the Sterlings but did buy a pair of Spendors from Jeff Stake about 15 years ago.  He was very accommodating for both the listening session and the subsequent purchase.  (Looks like he don't carry Spendor anymore.)
Best streamer to replace my Mac Mini?
@audiotroy -- Bruno's comment was in reference to a thread on another audio forum where a 432 EVO user had issues and didn't get the help he wanted from the manufacturer. He posted pictures of the interior and the manufacturer responded asking the...
Best upgrade path from Borresen X3s
I'll just add my voice to those who have asked what the OP is trying to "improve."  You'd think for the dollars in play that one would be able to identify some specific traits in the current setup that are weak compared to what he would like.
10dB resonant peak at 40Hz
Another thought not suggested above -- add a high pass filter to the existing speakers and add a powered sub or two. You can try the sub in different positions to find the best spot to even out the 40 Hz resonance.  Subs can often be easier to mov...
Differences between Harbeth, Spendor, Graham, etc. ?
Tinnitus is all too common as many of us age. I'm in my 70s and the problem started over 20 years ago. I've got a constant 9 KHz squeal both left and right. Ran that down by using a signal generator and a set of headphones and adjusted the frequen...
Differences between Harbeth, Spendor, Graham, etc. ?
I used to own Spendor SP 1/2Es and have listened to several Harbeth models. I haven't heard the Grahams. I prefer the Spendors -- the midrange and 3-D qualities are absolutely magic. The biggest drawback is the extremely small sweet spot -- you'r...
Watts! How many do we need?
@bigtwin -- I appreciate your points, but high wattage alone doesn't tell you anything about how an amp behaves when presented with a low impedance load of 4 ohms or under.  And wattage also says nothing about the other elements of sound quality. ...
Watts! How many do we need?
@bigtwin -- the one thing missing in the info you posted is a reference to the listening volume in the room. Not everyone wants live rock concert volume in their home. The other common mistake concerns the level of peaks above the average playbac...
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
@renosteve  -- you completely misread my question.  The "Why?" was not inquiring as to why you were asking about speakers, but rather why you failed in multiple responses to say what speakers you currently have.  For example, if you have (and lov...
Help with high end bookshelf speakers
@renosteve -- you've been asked repeatedly about your current system -- particularly the speakers -- and you've given several replies without ever answering the question.  Why?  Keeping things a secret makes it harder to give suggestions that will...
Watts! How many do we need?
I have an original Schitt Aegir (20 w/ch 8 ohms) and a pair of Ohm 1000 speakers in a 15' X 24' room with a vaulted ceiling -- absolutely no problem reaching my desired listening level (85 dB average) with no hint of clipping or compressed dynamic...
Aerial Speakers
Always interesting to see a thread come to life again after a 10 year snooze!
Dirty little secret of Pedigreed, decades old Speaker line - no one will address
It's an interesting quirk of human nature that some people get invested to the extreme in a cause that doesn't really affect them in any direct way, either positive or negative. The OP hasn't been forced to buy the speakers -- or even listen to th...
Dirty little secret of Pedigreed, decades old Speaker line - no one will address
Interesting that the OP has made no further comment. Was this just a drive-by shooting?
