The longest you have owned any gear?
36 years ago in 1981 l purchased a NAD 3040 that still powers my garage/outdoor system through an outboard preamp. With respect to bondmanp, I stupidly sold my Thorens TD-166 MkII when CD players became popular.
Will preamp manufacturers tell you if the model is phase inverse?
You can use the Stereophile test CD to determine whether your polarity is correct
Obscure brands worth considering
So what is his secret? I cannot claim to know, but I can say his amps seem to be built very well, to maybe overbuilt, with huge power supplies, and they run in all class  A. The parts are of a high quality and more about service life than being ...
Obscure brands worth considering
I buy from well established companies that will stay in business for a while and provide great support. That has worked for me in every respect except with amplifiers.  Clayton Audio is a USA-based company but really a one-man operation that handle...
Directionality of wire
@geoffkait" I don't use cables or interconnects or power cords anymore so I guess I really can't comment."Does this policy apply to all wire-related threads or only the $5K speaker cable thread? Since you don't use fuses anymore.....
Power Cable DIY - Please advise
Your best options could vary depending on which equipment you plan to power. In general, front end equipment such as servers, players, and DACs do not need a large a gauge as large power amplifiers.  However, some would argue that anything over abo...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
audiotroy, I auditioned the Aqua Hifi La Scala MKII, but not the recent Optologic version.gibalok, my pre was custom made by SMc Audio - Steve McCormack, and is very close to his VRE-1.  It is a unity-gain, buffered preamp with the VRE-1 outboar...
Absolute top tier DAC for standard res Redbook CD
I owned the Adagio and have had the LaScala here in my system for an audition.  I agree with gibalok about the Adagio, which I found to be very clean and resolving but with a bit less body and tonal density than I enjoyed from my Level 1 Pavan...
Greatest Rock Drummers
Saw all on your list but Palmer. It is a good list but some will find it incomplete....particularly fans of John Bonham.I would put Ginger Baker up there with the best and fans of Cream, GB's Airforce, and Blind Faith will have no problem with him ...

nitewulf, I own a Metrum Pavane Level 3 and I think it sounds great in my system.  This thread is typically devoted to the significantly more expensive DACs Matt is auditioning.
2017 Honest Cabling that doesn’t promote bankruptcy
Knownothing, I suspect the two Duelund runs would sound just fine.  I bi-wire with two runs of WE10ga wire and it sounds great to me.
Antipodes DS GT versus Bryston BDP2
I haven't seen the upgrade prices, and it does depend on the generation of your existing DX, so whether the pricing is "modest" remains to be seen.  What I like is that this would be the second chance I have had to fully upgrade my unit to their l...
Antipodes DS GT versus Bryston BDP2
Mark with Antipodes has graciously emailed us DX owners with updates about their plans and about how we can schedule upgrades to the new Gen 3 if we so choose, for the difference in price between our current unit and the Gen 3.  They still plan ...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters
Recently switched from large'ish ported speakers with 4, 7-inch bass drivers each and a single high-quality sub to "monitor" speakers with 2, 9-inch LF drivers each in a sealed 100+ lbs. box and two high-quality subs from the same mfg and the bass...
2017 vs. 1990s - How far we have come
Sorry Eric, I didn’t type my question correctly, I meant to ask what you considered "the best Class D" that sounds as good as "the most accurate Class A"? Is it something different from, or better than, the NC1200 amps that I compared to?
