Advice on Optical Ethernet Conversion
“some have reported it takes some “life” from the music” Not at all challenging what “some” hear, but I would like to understand how this is possible, if anyone has a plausible explanation.

I really look forward to reading the first review of the Galle Dac.   @grannyring - Did you get yours yet?  Any further thoughts on how it performs and what it does well as a DAC?  I like the looks of it and I actually apprecate the absence of be...
For those who miss Geoff
What we didn’t know, but have since learned. Oh well, he certainly wasn’t afraid to try stuff. Since you’ve been there and done that, did you get the t-shirt?
Whats playing on your system today?

Fiber or Eithenet
The cable run from my network equipment to my main system room is about 40 feet. I have CAT8 Ethernet and fiber optic lines (both) permanently installed. I have A/B compared them multiple times and never heard a reliably meaningful difference betw...
For those who miss Geoff
I too first heard about spring supports from Geoff, and then looked into the products by manufacturers like Credo and Townshend, and finally made my own damped spring supports.  Of course, his ideal stereo rig was a Sony Walkman. Speaking of miss...

Speaking of Geoff, no sooner did his name come up and…man down, we lost the first thread of 2025, just sayin’.
Advice on Optical Ethernet Conversion
@jimboman  "I ended up purchasing the OpticalModule Deluxe with a SGC linear power supply.  In testing it with the cheaper FMC, I would say the audible difference was marginal, but the overall quality seemed more refined.  And, it seems that par...
Digital isolation between Ethernet hub and streamer
@erik_squires - I agree about surge protection.  Unfortunately, outside of a Belkin unit in my server/IT room, and my Isoclean Power A60 that filters all of my front end stuff in my system room, I don't really use it. When I mentioned isolation f...
Belden 8402, 8412, and 8428
@climbereg  I am glad if you find this thread useful.  It is almost 10 years behind the curve, i.e., after the fervor that started with Mr. Shirokazu Yazaki of Spec Corporation, when their vision of "real sound" was reported on by PF reviewer Jef...
Digital isolation between Ethernet hub and streamer
As far as I can tell, these filters provide galvanic isolation in one of two ways, by either using transformers (i.e., the NA filters) or optical isolation (i.e., GigaFOIL and others).  Don't most good servers/streamers also provide some form of i...
What Speaker Cables Taught Me About Audiophiles
@squared80 "anything they purchase beyond OFC at the proper gauge for the length isn’t going to change the sound" WRT the conductor material, I tend to agree. Ambient noise in just about any room is going to overwhelm a 1-2 percent difference...
What Speaker Cables Taught Me About Audiophiles
@ejr1953 - Shocker!  Too bad they didn't have switches, Ethernet cables, and other tweaks to compare.  OTOH, maybe a strike against "blind" testing
Digital isolation between Ethernet hub and streamer
Move over Network Acoustics, GigaFOILv4-INLINE,  iFi LAN iPurifier Pro |, and all the others.
Six DAC Comparison
@wig - I agree, the Merason DAC1 MkII was a hard one to give up. I would have liked to keep it but just had too many DACs here. The Mojo EVO Pro was also hard to give up and the buyer received a very nice DAC with the Z-chips. Benjamin checked it ...
