Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
Lost two boxes today when I removed my preamp and its outboard power supply from my system. After recently purchasing a Jade and Baby Ambre for a second system, I put the Jade into my main system (in place of a Pavane L3 into an SMc Audio preamp). ...
Easy to drive, outstandingly natural sound from 40-50 Hz up.....AN-E, O/96, others?
@exlibris Where did you find a good-sounding high pass filter made with high quality components, or did you make one yourself.I have looked at Vandersteen's M7-HP, which is made for their Model 7 series speakers and appears to be well-constructed,...

I agree with your thoughts on the AN Duke.  Another option might be to use a high-pass filter like Vandersteen uses, and then roll the subs up to match the rolled off frequency and output of the main AN speakers.  Of course you may accomplish the ...

@jond Your questions raise some good points and even though the thought of simplifying my system is attractive, the simplest route is probably to stick with the speakers and amps that I already own.  I do have a 50-watt amp in mind but for the pow...
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
@donquichotte "compare directly the Onyx / Jade to the Pavane / Adagio. Would you say that the later do improve upon the former in terms of treble extension and soundstage width?"I would say the latter improves on the former in terms of tonal dens...
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
@donquichotte, I see that I should probably clarify the intent of my comments.  I have owned quite a few Metrum products and they have all been great for their intended purpose at their price points.  I have owned the Octave II, Hex, Pavane L1, an...
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
@justjames72 , to your question,"so not worth it to upgrade from Onyx to Pavane unless you are super critical listener?"I would say, probably not, unless the rest of your system is dialed in at a fairly high level.  However, this stuff is subjecti...
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
Just picked up a Jade DAC/preamp and it sounds amazing for the money. After putting it in my main system today, I am reevaluating whether I should be using the Adagio rather than my Pavane L3.  Consistent with my earlier comments, they are cut from...

A wide variety of interesting options.Thank you everyone.
Easy to drive, outstandingly natural sound from 40-50 Hz up.....AN-E, O/96, others?
@salectric , I have been interested in Spendor SP 100s, as well as Harbeth M40.2s but both of those have relatively low sensitivity for a 50-watt amp, although both are somewhat "easy" to drive from the standpoint of impedance.  Just not sure 50 w...

Thanks Al, I knew I left one off my short list. After hearing the bass improvement in my room after moving from large speakers to somewhat smaller speakers with two subs, I will probably continue down that path.  The trick is finding smaller speake...
Metrum Onyx versus Metrum Pavane
Unfortunately, I have not heard the Onyx but I have owned the Octave II, Hex, Pavane, Adagio, and finally settled in with the Pavane L3.  After owning the Adagio as well as the original edition and (more recently) the highest level Pavane L3, it i...
what replaced your Aerial 7B speakers?
I have owned the BAT and the bass can be a bit soft sounding.  I moved from Aerial 9s to LR5s (105 lb monitors) on 70 lb Sound Anchor stands and then added two, Aerial SW12 subs.  The combination of acoustic suspension (i.e., sealed box) speakers ...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Interesting comments in this thread.   I own big Class A amps and really like much about the sound but there can also be advantages to how Class AB amps present certain types of music.  Another thing I have found to matter is whether the output st...
Pass Labs AMP’s- What is the best Pass Amp Sound for You from past 10 years
Thanks for jumping in markum01, I was hoping somebody would mention the 260.8 monoblocks, which are sort of on my radar.  I assume the 260.8 monos offer as much as the 250.8 stereo amp, plus some? Any comparisons between the 260.8 monoblocks and t...
