Again the topic of weight of amps
@geoffkait  It’s no secret that big honking transformers produce toxic magnetic fields that distort the sound and that transformers produce mechanical vibration that affects everything in the chassis, especially given that transformers are bolted...
Anyone listened to Aerial 9's?
I have used a variety of amplifiers with the LR5s.  Consistent has been Clayton M300 Class A monoblocks but I also currently own Cary CAD 500MB monos and a pair of DNA-1s that are at SMc for Steve's Signature treatment.  I am in the process of wor...
What’s really hurting the audio hobby?
IMO, the only thing that would truly hurt the audio hobby would be for artists to stop making good music.Playback options and preferences will change and yesterday's gear may become obsolete but the audio hobby will continue to thrive.....maybe ju...
Anyone listened to Aerial 9's?
Wow, a blast from the past. I have never heard the 7Ts, buy based on this thread I purchased the 9s and owned them for years.  I really enjoyed the clean, dynamic, and somewhat warm sound of the Model 9s.  They sounded good on a variety of rock, p...
About the cheapest cable elevators (for those with empty pockets)
Foam pipe insulation.Cut into 2 to 3 inch long pieces.Slit down the side allows you to easily place on cables at any location.I use them to provide physical separation between wires crossing each other but they could easily serve as cable elevator...
Any cable delivers more bass than Cardas Golden Reference?
I agree with @don_c55  about the bass performance of Cardas GC speaker cables, which I found to better even their GR cables in the bass - yes, I owned both at the same time.  I thought the sweet spot at that time was GR ICs and GC SCs.
Directional cables - what does that really mean?
Wire is cast and then drawn through a die, which creates a pattern in the grain structure and a non-symmetrical pattern at the surface of the wire, affecting high frequencies and causing the sound to be comparatively flat and grainy in one directi...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
Oh Liz, those are “manufactured” by you-know-who and as “Flying Saucers” they are part of the “2001: A Space Oddity” line-up that is not without its fan-base (you can typically identify them by the tin foil hats). I suspect the head Space Cowboy a...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
Thanks for the explanation.Makes me wonder if that is one reason some equipment manufacturers don't subscribe to tweaking (beyond providing good power, solid support, and room treatments) since in many cases the tweaked result may be different but...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
@whostolethebatmobile What about my vote for the Maxiimus P16?useless - it generally makes the sound worse, smears focus and destroys the soundstage. Curious - how do you know what it does to the sound? Do you own one?How do you guys even hear ab...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
It would be a good idea to isolate all the printed circuit boards from the transformer There are a variety of anti-vibration grommets and stand-offs that can be used with a pcb.Steve McCormack uses the anti-vibration stand-offs and he placed th...
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
This thread has turned in an unexpected direction.Tweakers unite!

What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
I have no idea what is in the Gate Frank.  PerfectPath Technologies do seem to have an "overabundance of enthusiasm" for that product.  They say one thing that I suspect is true; “Words cannot describe”
What’s your vote for the most ridiculous, overpriced, and useless tweak?
Anyone else find an inverse relationship between the amount of hyperbole used to describe a tweak type product and the actual performance enhancement brought about by the product?  How about a similar inverse relationship between the packaging use...
