Can a preamp's gain be lowered? I just bought a pair of Rothwell attenuators with -10 dB which is perfect for my situation. I think it's the right thing to do given that I can change the attenuation myself at any point in time. Thanks again, Mark
Can a preamp's gain be lowered? Mjcmt, I appreciate your info. I've been emailing with Gerald at AES, but his replies have been intermittent and sparse. I haven't tried to call. Maybe I should have done that, but he seems either too busy to answer my questions or not interested ...
Need phono pre amp recommendations There's a Conrad Johnson PV10AL with phono for sale in the classifieds that would be a perfect fit. It'll leave you with a healthy budget for TT and cart.
Top resistors Rodman, thanks for the link to Aiken Amps. That was an excellent tech note! There's a slew of other fine reading where that came from: http://www.aikenamps.com/TI_Aiken_adv.htmI'm placing an order for some TX2575 today.
Can a preamp's gain be lowered? AES has been tough to communicate with. Most of my questions have gone unanswered. I'd rather not deal with that (whether it's attitude or being too busy I don't know). I can easily build my own attenuators. According to Goldpoint's website, I nee...
How do I reduce gain on my preamp? 08-11-08: FordmodI called AR and they told me what values to change and faxed me a schematic. Thats customer service!!Consider yourself lucky to be dealing with a company that's willing to share this info so you can do it yourself. When I asked AE...
Top resistors I'm in the process of building a phono stage with TX2352 in the signal path. It'll be hard for me to say "ah ha" since I haven't heard it any other way, but everything I've read says bulk foils and nude Vishays are quieter. In my opinion, it makes...
Can a preamp's gain be lowered? Hi Mjcmt, I've been emailing with Gerald Walsh at AES. He said they can reduce the gain to 10 dB. I'm considering it. It's only $125. But I know I could build attenuators for a fraction of that price (probably using better resistors), so that's my...
Capacitor burn in, Capacitor Cooker? Need help... I haven't used it, but Jim Hagerman makes a burn-in generator called the FryBaby: http://www.hagtech.com/frybaby.html
Technoarm for LP-12? I've heard many glowing recommendations for the Hadcock 228 Export.
Eastern Electric Mini Max vs AE-3 DJH preamps I've had the DJH for a few days and absolutely love the sound. I was expecting to hear some bloat (like I did with a standard AE-3), but I've heard nothing of the sort. Apparently, they have different circuit designs. The DJH is direct coupled rat...

Warm Preamp I like my tubed Anthem Pre 1L from Sonic Frontiers.I wouldn't call the Anthem Pre-2L warm or tubey. It was almost solid state in its presentation. For what it's worth.
Can a preamp's gain be lowered? Ait, I appreciate you pointing this out to me. Your mod sounds very intriguing. You know a lot more about tubes and circuits than I do. After reading your description, I see there's very little in the way of actual changes (just two wires if I'm n... |
