Seismometer on iPhone
iSeismometer doesn't seem to be sensitive enough to give meaningful data for micro-vibrations. Even if it was, you can't do A-B comparisons.
Looking for Wagner recommendations
Many thanks for the suggestions. I picked up a few cds over the weekend:The Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Solti performing Rienzi, Der fliegende Hollander, Tannhauser, Siegfried Idyll. Decca label. The New York Philharmonic conducted by Mehta p...
The Hub: Refrigerators that can really sing
Bill, keep the articles coming... they've been great. I heard the Type A's in 1979 and was utterly blown away.
Whither Oracle Mk 1?
Absolutely worth it. The Origin DC motor is considered an excellent upgrade. I don't know anything about the Technics EPA 100, but Vinyl Engine says it was their top tonearm at one point in time. The DL-110 can be improved upon.
slightly neurotic question from a tube newbie
In the process of bending your pins, you put stress on the socket which, in turn, loosened its grip on the tube. If the tube glows and the amp sounds normal, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're anal retentive and want to restore its original grip...

need new amp
What brand/model amp do you have? I had a similar situation that went on for several months. It was totally frustrating and made me consider giving up tubes, but an electrician and I discovered the root of the problem was loose (old) sockets. If a...
Dyna 20XL and Shelter 501 II - fixed load ?
Why not avoid the loading problem altogether and go with a Dyna 20XH? It takes the standard 47K and the output is 2.8 mV.
6SN7 driver tubes
I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions. Thank you!
I Need an amp for some Nola Minis.
What's your budget? What are you using now for amp and preamp? Here's a quote from a 2003 Stereophile review: The Alón L'il Rascal Mk.II's voltage sensitivity was very slightly higher than specified, at 89dB(B)/2.83V/m, which is also 2dB above th...
Power conditioners
I really doubt a power conditioner is going to fix your noise issue. If it were originating from AC, you'd hear it in both channels. Check your source component. If you switch left and right ICs, does the noise switch channels? Are your speaker ca...
