New Preamplifier Testing (Poor sound)
If ALMARG was around, he wold have checked the impedance for the amp and pre-amp and would have come up with a recommendation. I think that would most likely be the reason. Try to look up those numbers and see if that is what the issue is.
I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s.
I am Gen X. And I love music from 60s-80s. Great music was made then. And I enjoy music from all eras. The problem is during 50s-80s the music production was limited and probably they had quality over quantity. Now-a-days any Tom/Dick/Harry withou...

@gnanasekhar ,Good to know that your issue is resolved. As a fun track, try to listen to "Jazz Variants" on your speakers.@mozartfan,Have you personally listened to the ProAc D48Rs?Unless you heard a component you cannot make judgements, because y...

As the OP, I wanted to get back on the solution that I put in place. And I still continue to learn more about acoustics. So I went with the GIK 242 2’ X 2’ panel that I mounted, flush with the ceiling. I used a "corner bracket" to do this. My initi...

valid concern. But it looks like his daughter and her husband are taking over. The future remains to be seen. Hoping the ProAcs thrive the way Spendors are doing after Spencer and Dorothy.

+another one for ProAcs@garebear as a ProAc owner, I am obviously biased. All the speakers you mentioned are highly desirable ones. If you get a chance, try to audition them. Yes, Thomas is a genuine and honest dealer. And the sound that I envisio...

@jdub39,I had not heard that before. I was thinking the ceiling is already low on that part and hence keep the panel as close to the ceiling. Any specific reason why to keep it at the same distance as the thickness of the panel? Will be interested...
First tube preamp recommendations (under $5k)
You need to audition the Backert Labs Rhumba 1.3. If $5k is the goal, then go with the Extreme version.
What is the #1 equipment want currently on your HiFi horizon???
A dedicated DAC - most likely R2R or R2R Hybrid.

I have placed an order for a 2"X24"X24" 242 Panel from GIK. Now looking for the best hardware to get this mounted flush to the ceiling.
Oppo 205 DAC
I do have the same player and have been using the player exclusively as a DAC since July last year. I love the way it makes music and ever if I might get a dedicated DAC in the future, I might use this player for playing BluRays/DVDs in another sy...

@williewonka ,I looked at your system, but could not find any pics.I already have GIK monster traps and 244s on the wall behind me.Adding vinyl (in my specific case) might not be ideal.

One interesting mounting I found on ATS site was the Rotofast mounting system. This really can get the panels flush against the ceiling. I am not sure if I have studs in that soffit, as I understand that it was created to hide the iron beam (this ...
