Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
Everyone loves vinyl. Its just that some people are susceptible enough to propaganda and marketing that they can for a time deny what they're own ears are hearing. Over time though its a losing battle, and one that explains why the digitally delud...
Confused Musical Presentation
One thing is absolutely true is that I CANNOT discern audible ques in a crowded environment! What I was afraid of. If this happens even without hearing aids then sorry to say its not them its you. Oh well. Natural process, happens to us all, just i...
Speaker Volume
Get a roll of duct tape and a friend. Hold one speaker up to each ear while the friend wraps them tight around your head. Use the whole roll. Any gaps bass will escape costing a few dB off the low end. Leave just enough space to breathe and suck a...
Confused Musical Presentation
Everyone is going after the system even after being clearly told there are hearing aids and damaged hearing. Situation normal. As state of the art as your hearing aids may well be one of the hardest things for any system is when the tapestry gets d...
Record weight for Garrard 301
Whatever bend you get will flex right back, unless you heat the record in the oven first. So don't do that.I've tried several versions of clamps. I prefer clamps by far over weights. But you are right to worry about the platter being dished out. T...
VPI Uni-Pivit Tone Arms
My first arm was the Graham. It started I think as a 2.0 then got a couple upgrades by the time I sold it for a monster upgrade to Origin Live Conqueror. When it comes to tone arms, couple things I know for sure: it does not pay to get caught up i...
Phono stage for my system?
Its not the cartridge, its the crappy home theater phono stage. Plus what are you running it through? Patch cords? Even a budget stand-alone phono stage will be a massive improvement, and then if you also get a pretty decent interconnect watch out...
Thoughts on a Potential New Rig
Minor red flag: zero budget for wire?
Turntable/Tonearm choices
I guess if you don't know its a copy of a 60 year old design then yes, its unique. https://parttimeaudiophile.com/2018/12/16/thales-simplicity-ii-tonearm-review/The alignment jig is a lot like a Graham, except where Graham etches a precise cross a...
The rejuvenation of FPB 600 after recap
If you like what 240 new caps did, try replacing the handful (probably 4) of 20 year old diodes with newer faster higher quality. I lean more McCormack myself, but better diodes improves everything.
Turntable/Tonearm choices
Neither one. Much better by far in that price range is the Teres, which usually you would be SOL but right now happens to be one for sale right here on the site. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9g8j4-teres-audio-certus-460-turntablesYou could...
KLH Model 5 question
Speakers don't require power. You do. The louder you want, the more power you need. So the question is, how much power do YOU require?
Saxaphone vs. Trumpet...Which do you prefer?
Well the sax is big and heavy and you have to suck on the reed and stuff and if your embouchure isn't perfect it just makes the most hideous sound like a whipped dog or something. Plus there's a whole slew of things to keep cleaned and lubed. Trum...
static Issues...anybody know why?
Tried looking at them? Lyra Delos, open body, hardly anything comes near the vinyl but the stylus. Ortofon, great big plastic body running right next to the record. DYODD on static, everything from shape to construction, the Ortofon is gonna be wo...
Tube life
Darn millercarbon , you can't say stuff I agree with. It is not fair:)Nor is it easy. What I mean is, tubes vary so much from brand to brand and even tube to tube its very hard to say anything meaningful about them without someone else being able ...
