Record clamp
If you want to improve sound quality, the Origin Live Gravity One record weight is the best I have heard, by far. It is also the lightest, and easiest to use. This record "weight" is only about 2oz. Unlike others that clamp or use mass to damp vib...
How's the water?
Oh no, I’ve been bloviating on blather, banter, BS and baloney for quite some time now. Don’t care for palaver, pontificating, posturing, posing or any of that crap either. What I despise most of all is sloppy pointless writing. So if you have a c...
Speakers for triode tube amps
Why 8 ohms. Nevermind. I know. Same old story. The speakers you seek are called Tekton. Eric has some specifically tailored to such amps. Take your pick.
Zappa ‘88 … LP vs CD issues
Got a spot that gets me hot and you ain't been to it.
OK, so I have to ask. Is this real, or is this a joke?
I’ve done all that stuff, and more. Way more. The $71 QSA blue fuse is better than any $500 power cord, interconnect, Pod, spring, panel, you name it. By all accounts this holds true for Yellow and Violet, etc. If you heard the Blue you would not ...
Zappa ‘88 … LP vs CD issues
Only with the LP can you really feel the Dinah Moe Humm.
How's the water?
That article really sets the bar for blather. Lays it right on the ground.
Capacitor
Where is the cap? What is the circuit? In the absence of solid understanding the safest course is to use only same value caps. They can vary by a bit but in percentage terms, okay? The values you are talking while small in absolute terms are large...
Time to upgrade my turntable?
What would you suggest? I might prefer to stay within the Pro-ject line as I could reuse the acrylic platter (if one is not provided with the recommended turntable). No offense, but not the greatest reasoning. You've already got some good advi...
Vintage tubes - facts, science, technology & empirical evidence VS. marketing, myth & hype
Let me be, perhaps, a little clearer in explaining what I'm thinking. I think it takes years of experience to really know your way around vintage tubes. Without that experience we're relying on others to guide the way. Isn't that one of the pu...
Loudest Sound Ever?
Black holes do not burp. You are maybe thinking of Hawking radiation? http://scholarpedia.org/article/Hawking_radiation
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
Max can slaughter Herbie's with one arm tied behind his back.
is there a way to fix a warbly sounding tape deck?
Speed stability could be a bent capstan, but more likely just a dirty or worn pinch roller. Could also be dirty/worn belt drive. Head alignment has nothing to do with speed stability so skip that one.Easiest fixes first. Clean capstan and pinch ro...
The first system you had that was "high end/audiophile", by you standards
Linaeum Model 10 speakers, McCormack DNA1, Synergistic cables, California Audio Labs CDP. Originally on a 2x12 plank, then moved to the rack currently in the corner. Same room. We have come a long way in 30+ years. https://systems.audiogon.com/sys...
Boy, Oh Boy! Towshend!
Sure. Why not? The only question is how? Townshend accomplish leveling on Podiums by turning a knob, and on Pods by turning the top of the Pod. Either way allows convenient and accurate leveling. My turntables were on Pods, my speakers on Podiums....
