Tube amps under $7500 @hickamore - I have opposite view actually. I would rather enjoy my gear before zombie apocalypses takes over even if only for a few weeks or months. :-) The US is not the only country on the globe that has electricity :-)
Importance of clocking @antigrunge2 Well, some reviews claim "The Innuos PhoenixNET will also improve your music playback from the files on the music server itself. Even though that music isn’t being streamed through the PhoenixNET. You heard that right." Well.... so...
Tube amps under $7500 @hickamore - It may be a great amp, but I personally not sure about buying from a single-man shop $$$ amp. What about service? What happens if the business goes belly up or owner decides to retire or otherwise to move on? I would rather buy used ...
Importance of clocking @antigrunge2 I assume you mean Phoenix NET network switch. I can theoretically imagine that streamer has underpowered CPU and low performance network stack and hardware so an extra switch before it helps. The network switch may be set up to filte...
Importance of clocking @antigrunge2 Let‘s just say that my ears and reputable designers like Innuos, Esoteric et al disagree with you Dont simply trust “designers”. Companies want your money and will happily sell whatever for a profit. Always verify their claims. I h...
Speakers for SET 8 Watt 300B system? I think you want to select highly sensitive speakers. Then listen to whatever is available for audition close to you. Perhaps take your amp with you to the dealer. Klipsch, Audio Note, Tannoy come to mind.
What if a high end speaker measures really badly? @erik_squires - how would you define “high end” or “exotic” car? Not all of them are high performance and each has its own drawbacks and idiosyncrasies. There is no “sports convertible with 7 luxury seats and ability to tow a boat across rough te...
Tube amps under $7500 BAT is the least tubey. It is still tube sound, but to my ears almost transitions to SS MOSFET like Pass Labs. Built like a tank, lasts forever, resells fast, if needed.
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system @tlcocks No, you will not damage anything. At worst you will hear lots of distortions of you raise eq level too high so tubes or transistors start clipping. This is another danger or EQ - if you raise some frequencies too much, your amp will produ...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system EQ is indispensable tool. However, plain analog one is hard to make, they all introduce phase errors. Try using pure digital, in digital path before your DAC. MiniDSP SHD accepts digital signals and can be Dirac or just PEQ. Avoid extra analog-dig...
New DAC issues DACs sound vastly differently depending on the chip they use (or being R2R without chip) as well as filter implementations. If it doesn’t sound right to you it does not mean its bad. I personally know that most probably I will not like DAC based o...
Reel to Reel You can try reels by purchasing cheaper unit first. I got my Akai GX-77 for like $300 on eBay. If you like the experience, you can always upgrade. But then, it depends what you want to do with the unit. Record LPs? You probably don't need 15 IPS u...
Best sounding headphones you have owned? Meze Elite, why :-) Sit right now on my head.
Why is my expensive streamer to my DAC better than sending Roon or my Mac directly to DAC You can probably achieve similar result with Mac via DDC reclocker/isolator, i.e. Mac => DDC => DAC. Also, may need to adjust OS to make sure fewer processes running putting less load on CPU and fewer interrupts. After all, streamer IS a com...
What if a high end speaker measures really badly? But who said the measurement must be linear? Remember popularity of equalizers? And how many people liked V-shape? A lot of music is poorly recorded and can benefit from correction. Enter this speaker. It is basically an equalizer, i bet it sounds... |
